Pulse Oximeter

Post by bmanley » Sat Feb 25, 2017 1:23 pm

Think somebody pointed me to the CMS50F to use to monitor my O2 but I'm wondering if anybody has any other ideas. Also Amazon seems like a lowest price I find, anybody have a better buy?
Doctor ordered a one night study with a pulse oximeter but I know it fell off during the night so I'm not sure how good the reading was that they got. I have one that just goes on my finger and I don't see how to get it to record, plus I think it is going out on me. Display is dim and new batteries doesn't help. I posted about having a headache after I fall asleep during the day and wonder if it's not a low pulse ox. Just sitting my reading is normally only 93 and if I remember right they said over night it only dropped to an 89. Don't remember what they said about the level were you need supplement O2

I don't use a pulse ox so others will respond for that question. But I wanted to say you should use your cpap when you nap. And if you are falling asleep before you know it, that could be a sign that therapy needs improvement. I know you are waiting on a new machine so maybe when you get it you could set you old one by your chair for naps.

I know I need to change something and that is why the doctor ordered a new machine and a mask. Still waiting to get the new machine, doc ordered it 3 weeks ago. Yes I can all of a sudden fell so tired I don't want to keep my eyes open. Also my meds come into play with all this. Just wanting to get something so I can check my O2 level at night sometimes and see what it is doing. Since the probe fell off my finger during the one night study I wonder how well it did. Not sure how they record things but would hope it showed something like no reading when it fell off and just didn't register anything for that time

Also wondering if that unit is what I should be looking for or if there is something better but not too much more in cost

there's nothing better, but there are much much much more expensive models.

I had the CMS50F (wrist model) for several years, but the display went out and my computer would no longer recognize it.

I just bought, on ebay, a CMS60F and got it for about $95. I used it for the first time last night. It has a different finger sensor (hard, not soft like the 50F) so I put a small rubber band around to keep it on my finger.

It worked like a charm. I'm pretty happy with it.

I have the 50F and it's pretty good but it has started to get glitchy in two ways. One, the SpO2 number seems to jump around for about the first five minutes of wearing the device sometimes. Second, sometimes I get the 64% SpO2 glitch that others have gotten. I just ignore those obviously but still.

Had not heard about problems with the devise. Will have to keep my eye out and do some more reading. Not sure I'd like the 60 model since it would just have to sit there. Like the wrist idea best so far and the smaller part for your finger

I debated long and hard about buying another 50F because I liked the wrist model too. But when the display conked out and then it wouldn't show up on my computer, I decided to try the other model. I had the same concerns about it just laying there, but many of the DME's have a model similar (I've only seen one wrist model used by a DME). So I figured if they can use those models for patients, I can too. The cord for the finger probe is LONG so it gives you plenty of room to put the monitor somewhere. I just put it on my pillow and it worked fine.
