couple hours not logged

Post by joem18b » Sun Feb 12, 2017 11:13 am

i got up in the night last night, paused the machine, came back to bed, got up two hours later, and the machine did not log those two hours. came back to bed and it started logging again.

is this a known problem, where the machine skips keeping track of usage time for a bit? i've been using the machine for 6 months and it hasn't happened before.

i'll call resmed tech support when they're open, but i'm curious in the meantime.

thanks.

What is telling you that those 2 hours weren't logged?
The machine's LCD display or the software?

If you've been compliant the rest of the time, you will not have a DME issue, if that's a concern.

I'm not sure what might have happened.

A short question, are you absoultely sure that the machine was on and properly connected during that period? Are you sure that there was no power outage and that you're machine was plugged in the whole time?

info was on lcd: after toggling the air, also in Sleep Report and on MyAir. Just skipped two hours.

chip not in.

everything else normal: no machine on/off, no power fail.

the reasonable explanation is that i came back to bed and forgot to toggle on the air. but no way i slept two hours with nose pillows in and the air off, is there? it would be doing that little puffing thing and then eventually stop. i've never tried breathing with the air toggled off...

ok, just tried it. a little heavier than normal breathing but maybe that's what i did.

yes, the compliance issue crossed my mind + it screws up the ahi number by taking out a patch of the night when the number is lowest.

thanks.

my wife tells me that she heard some light snoring, so i guess i had the nose pillows in and the machine off. the power of suggestion kept me asleep for a couple of hours that way. seems hard to believe.

Of course its possible...it happens to users all the time. In fact, it happened to me last week with my full face mask. I put on the mask and neglected to turn on my machine. didn't notice it until about 3 hours later. It's actually easier to do with nasal pillows because you can breathe through your mouth.

I have also slept with machine off and using nasal pillows. Even if we don't resort to mouth breathing there's enough air movement to sustain us. It might not be all that comfortable but it can be done.
In my case it was about 30 minutes I figured from the time the machine quit and the time I woke up and realized the machine wasn't on. Verified by software times and visually noting the time when I woke up fully.

I have also done a test while awake to see if I could comfortably breathe through only the nasal pillow venting system with the machine off. It's not super comfortable but not so horribly uncomfortable either. I got bored after 45 minutes and aborted that experiment.

Final verification for your machine maybe either not logging the hours or the machine maybe being off...use the available software so you can see minute by minute what did or didn't happen.
You can't get that kind of detail using the machine's LCD screen or the MyAir reporting.
The machine will log whatever usage occurs even without the SD card being in the machine so the SD card being out doesn't affect the usage...it only affects some of the detailed data.

Machines failing to log hours of use is not something that happens very often but it wouldn't be totally impossible for there to be something wrong with the internal software. If it happens again and you know with absolute certainty you did use the machine then report it to your equipment supplier.

I like auto-on, as it restarts the machine in case it has been off for any reason--from potty breaks to power outages.

I like it because when i roll over and grab the mask from the middle of the headboard, i don't have to roll back over and fumble for the machine... likewise when removing the mask... my trusty lil s9 just takes care of that detail for me.
