Hello All,
I think my autocpap is broken. When I sleep it never "kicks in". The meter only shows me 5 when I look at it. I've asked my DME dealer but they say everything is fine, they don't really seem to care. What should I do? Some people say that it goes on when I sleep but my husband doesn't think so. He's only on a CPAP so we've never encountered these problems.
Thanks.

AutoCPAP Machine Broken I think
Auto Cpap
Mo,
I use an auto-cpap and when I am awake my pressure reads 8, but I do a download from my smart card and says I went to 12 during the night.
I think that since the auto machine adjusts the pressure on a breath by breath basis, you may only need 5 when you are awake.
What model do you have and have you done a download?

How can you tell...
Unless your cpap has a memory feature that can be downloaded, I don't know how you will know if it works or not. If you are awake it will only blow the minimal pressure needed. Usually the lowest preset pressure. Once you go to sleep the machine goes into action and delivers whatever pressure you need to stop any obstructions. Unless your husband is awake and can check the machine to see what pressure is displayed while you are sleeping, he really wouldn't know either. Do you feel like you did before you used a cpap? How long have you used this machine and how old is your mask?

Card Reader Eh?
Hi all.
I do have a card I'm told. I need a reader and have been looking around online for one.
My mask is pretty new. 3-4 months, somewhere in there. I'm going to try the card reader and see if I'm really getting the right pressure. I feel ok, so perhaps something is working - I just want to be sure...
Thanks very much for the advice!

Auto Adjusting cpaps can be a little hard to get used to. You do need to let the machine work FOR YOU. You can't watch it to see if it changes pressures. If the machine is still on in the morning, and if you are still wearing the mask, and you feel rested, it is working. You may encounter elevated pressures at times that might wake you, but again, the machine is sensing you need a higher pressure. So take the time to get used to it. If you are getting error messages, no pressure, no power, then you have a problem and should return it to the provider.
