Chin strap recommendation

Post by mibbim » Fri Feb 03, 2017 6:31 pm

I sleep with my mouth open, so my doctor ordered a chin strap with the nasal mask and cpap. I have TMJ problem, and usually easy to get headache. So I can’t wear glasses or ear piece. That makes me feel headache. Can someone who has been using the chin strap recommend a comfortable one? Thanks!

When I first used CPAP, I was living with this woman. I ripped her panties off and used them as a chin strap, pissed her off because they were these expensive black thong panties from Victoria's Secret and I was wearing them on my head as a chin strap for about a week. When she'd complain Id tell her to shut the f up.
Id be dead by now if I didn't use my CPAP gear every night.

PapCap, or wear a foam cervical collar.

With your TMJ problems, you might find a cervical collar holds your chin up and airway more open than a chin strap. Neither will completely keep air from leaking out your lips but might be enough to prevent major mouth breathing.
What machine are you using? If it is a full data capable one you can get free software to monitor leaks and how effective your therapy is.

I tried the cervical collar before to stop my snore, but it doesn't work for me, it doesn't push up my chin. I still have a dry mouth when I wake up in the middle of night.

I'm not a chin strap user so I can't say which is best. Are you saying you can't wear a FF mask due to the TMJ ? Which FF masks have you tried?
Did you know that the cervical collars come in different widths? Some users tape their mouths to prevent mouth breathing.
Maybe some of the users of chin straps or taping will post later.

As far as the dry mouth, have you increased your humidity? I get a dry mouth even though I don't mouth breath, so I try to prevent it by using Orajel for dry mouth before bed and keep a Biotiene spray at my bedside in case I wake up and need it. I haven't need it at night for quite a while.

I have a very small face. Tried the amara full face cpap mask before, it leaks. My doctor say due to my face is too small, so full face one may cause leaking. So this time he order the air fit nasal for her with chin strap. He says the nasal one usually have less leaking problem.
