ResMed Airfit N20

Post by tj616 » Sun Jan 22, 2017 1:21 pm

I have one of the new ResMed AirfitN20. I like how it fits, but there is a constant stream of air coming out the little vent in the front. The mask seems to seal well, but when I sleep facing my husband, he is blasted with a steady stream of cool air. I thought the vent was for exhaled air, but this is much stronger. Anyone else with a similar issue? ideas? I can't find anything on the ResMed site and trying to get through to their customer service is impossible.

It's normal venting of not only our own exhaled breath but some of the cpap produced pressure as well. Some masks venting is simply stronger than others and the pressure used is also a factor. If your pressure is 5 cm then that isn't going to feel as strong as say 10 cm.
Spousal discomfort from the mask venting is a common complaint. We do what we can to diminish the discomfort.
Anything from turning away from the spouse to putting something like a small pillow between us so that the vented air gets blocked.
Some masks have a more diffused venting system so that the vented air gets diffused. My mask has such a diffused vent that the venting can't be felt further than about an inch away from the vent holes. My husband never complained about the venting but once I started using this mask he made the comment that it was sure nice to not get blasted with the cold air.

The technology is there to diffuse the vented air and I am surprised that more masks aren't being offered with the diffused system.

All masks vent CO2 and excess air pressure.
