Am I doing this right?

Post by alwaystired4885 » Wed Jan 18, 2017 1:49 pm

Newb here. I entered my equipment on my profile but in case I did it wrong I am using a AirSense 10 Autoset with a Fisher & Paykel Simplus full face mask. I have been using it for just over 2 weeks. While I was hoping and dreaming for fast results I am realistic and know that sometimes it can take a while. I just want to make sure I am doing everything right. The first 5 days were great and I swear I sort of felt better. I didn't feel as tired during the day. Then all of a sudden I started having mask problems and leaking air kept waking me up. So I called my supplier (as I was never properly fitted and just got everything sent to me in the mail which I thought was weird) and I went in and they fitted me to the mask I am wearing now. After a few night and a few adjustments I feel as if I have the mask where it needs to be. So its really only been a maybe a week since I've had this new mask under control. My numbers aren't too bad either I don't think and that's where my questions come in. My pressure is set at 8cm. I'm sleeping with my gear on 7-8 hours a night and my AHI's average anywhere from 1.5-4.0. and my "mask seal" reading is anywhere from 0 to 6-7 L/min. This is all according to the myAir app. Other than that my wife said I was lightly snoring last night (which concerns me) and I have a call in to my doc on that. I guess my question is with these types of numbers is all there to do is just sit back and wait? I'm as tired today as I was before this started. Trying to be patient but part of me is worried I should be doing more. Lastly, please be nice and remember I am new haha. Sorry if I left anything out.

There's more to the feeling good thing than just number or even just "giving it time".
There is more data available than what you are seeing on the machine or the MyAir website.
Get the software and let's see if anything stands out needing work. It might be all that you need to do is "give it time" but you want to make sure that everything is optimal while you are giving it time.

Also some brief history questions.
Do you take any medications of any kind? If so what?
You say you are sleeping 7 to 8 hours...are you waking often during those 7 to 8 hours for any reason and if you are do you know why you are waking and how long do you seem to stay awake?
Do you have any other health issues?
How's your sleep hygiene? Is it good or do you do some bad stuff? Most of us do some bad stuff...myself included.
Is fatigue (tired) your main complaint or are you also experiencing daytime sleepiness (need to nap)?

If you want forum member input about your software results we need to see what you are seeing.
https://sleep.tnet.com/resources/sleepyhead/shorganize
3 pages...be sure to read all of them and we don't want or need to see every graph that is available with the software
some examples shown here
viewtopic/t103468/Need-help-with-screen-shots.html
and how to use imgur to host the images

While there is a lot of truth to the "give it time" thing and one or 2 weeks or even months is really too soon to expect marked symptom changes, you want to make sure that the therapy is optimal first because no amount of sub optimal therapy time is going to help all that much.

The fact that someone is reporting some snoring still going on could mean maybe less than optimal therapy because the snoring is a warning sign of the airway trying to collapse.

Thank you for the reply! I will download sleepyhead and report back. Does anybody know if the Airsense 10 Autoset comes with the SD card or do I need to go buy one in order to transfer data into Sleepyhead? As far as the other questions go, I cannot remember the last time I ever slept without waking up for one reason or another (roll over, switch positions etc). I did sleep really solid a couple nights ago but it took my forever to fall asleep but I woke up in the same position as I went to sleep in but woke up due to having a very vivid dream of a spider crawling on me haha. It was probably about 5 hours of sleep. Whenever I do wake up I am very rarely awake for long before I fall back asleep. Not sure if you would call it fatigue or daytime sleepiness but I could take a nap at anytime during the day but I am not falling asleep at my desk or while driving. Sleep hygiene could probably be better. I don't look at my phone or watch TV in bed as my wife is usually asleep before me but I will come straight to bed from the living after watching TV. Thanks!

There should be a SD card already in that little slot on the machine but if there isn't you can go to WalMart or similar store and get any plain SD card and it will work just fine. Most likely all you will see will be much larger in terms of storage but that won't hurt anything. 2 GB is plenty but those SD cards are getting really hard to find.

Do you take any meds?

Most machines come with an SD card but some have reported it missing lately. Look at the SD slot and if there is a card there you just push gently to release it. If you didn't get a card I would talk with your supplier as one poster stated their supplier sent out a letter explaining some were missing and provided one for them. If you want to replace a card, or have an extra, and small GB card will work. I think the ones supplied are 2GB but they are hard to find that small so maybe a 4GB.

I bought an SD card because my machine didn't have one and I'm so curious to look at my readings but when I got home it didn't fit. It was just a little too big. As far I know I just bought a standard SD card from Walmart. Should I be buying something more specific?

Exactly which SD card did you buy?
These machines all use the standard size SD cards which are I guess about the size of a postage stamp.
It should fit...it will be snug though.

That SD card should fit. I have a couple of those Sandisk cards myself but in slightly smaller content. They are all the same size.
It should fit in your machine's slot.

don't put it in upside down... sometimes it's not obvious which way the card goes.

Thanks everyone. I was able to put it in only to realize my Mac laptop is too old for the software to work. So I think I'm out of luck
