BiPap machine issues...

Hey everyone. I have two issues that I need some help with.

#1 I've had my machine for almost 2 weeks now, and in the past few days I've noticed at random times when I breathe in, nothing happens. No air. Sometimes it does it two times in a row when I breathe in. Then the next time I breathe in, it delivers the air like it's supposed to. Has this happened to anyone else?

#2 I know after reading on here that apparently my machine isn't the norm on this board? I didn't choose my machine, I was just given one. So if anyone has the same machine as me, please help! The manual says there is an iCode setting that I can view in the machine's menu. However, when I scroll through the menu there is no iCode on the options. It simply isn't there. I am so confused! Not only that, but the screen that tells you the time of completion, AHI, snore index, etc. all says 0.0 like it isn't collecting data. I'm frustrated, and I have a doctor's appointment on February 2nd so I can bring all of this up but I wanted to ask on here as well. Thanks in advance!

If you got your machine from a dealer, can you call and ask about this? Hopefully others here will also help.

I guess I can do that. I've had SOO many issues with them though. I actually bought my machine a few days after I got it because I didn't want to rent it out and deal with them. I even changed sleep doctors because the one I was using was terrible. I have had the worst luck. My new sleep doctor even said they were a terrible supplier when he asked who I was using. BUT I can call them and ask.

I took a quick glance at the manual for your machine and didn't see anything helpful. Is there anyway to change the sensitivity regarding triggering a breath?

If you are 100% positive that it isn't switching to the inhale pressure (and I only say that because in the wee hours of the night, sometimes it does feel like it isn't switching).....

I ran into the exact same thing in 2010 with a Phillips Respironics System One Bipap. My DME didn't believe me and told me I was crazy. There was nothing wrong with the machine but I knew that it sometimes wasn't switching to the inhale pressure when I inhaled.

After WEEKS of being told I was a PITA and that it was my imagination, my DME finally had me come in and he sat there and watched. It took a while, but he finally SAW what I was talking about. He turned white as a sheet when he realized it wasn't ME that was crazy, but something WAS going on. He finally HEARD me inhale but watched and saw that the machine did NOT switch from the EPAP to the IPAP pressure (they were pretty far apart). It sat there at the EPAP through two of my inhalation attempts.

In MY specific situation, it had to do with the reason I was on the machine to start with - a neuromuscular disease (not garden variety OSA). As it turned out, my breathing becomes so shallow that I cannot trigger the bipap into switching to the inhale pressure.

I am NOT saying that is what is going on with you. But without a doubt - I wouldn't let this go. Get the machine checked out and if necessary, do what I did. Go into the DME and lay there (I'm in a wheelchair and was able to recline in it) for a LONG time until you can show them what it's doing.

Madalot, your story makes me curious about why mine could be doing that. I notice it doing it before I even fall asleep. My husband told me that this morning, very early, he heard me wheeze like I was trying to get air (I always did this before I started using a machine) and he wondered why, and realized it was because of this. I'm going to call my supplier tomorrow and see what they say. Definitely interesting.
