CPAP sucess causing marriage issues
Re: CPAP sucess causing marriage issues
WOW.
Thank you so much, David.
This place is spooky because I've gotten so much so fast.
I am going to take it slow and try and read this with discernment.
I have to be careful while trying to find help not to scare myself.
lol
My ferritin was 4 but I have had transfusions since and will have next blood work on the 26th. (I think?)
So I expect it to be much better.

Generally, the case with iron deficiency is a problem in absorption. She should be under the care of a doctor who prescribes ferrous sulfate supplementation or, in extreme cases, iron therapy.davidb01 wrote:
Her problem isn't in not getting enough iron, her problem is she doesn't absorb iron properly!
In what you have posted, there is no indication that your wife is being treated properly.
Re: CPAP sucess causing marriage issues
She's only just been recently diagnosed with it and is working with our family doctor on a treatment plan. There's been talk of possible iron infusions (apparently not very nice), however as a last resort - seeing if other treatments work first.ChicagoGranny wrote:davidb01 wrote: In what you have posted, there is no indication that your wife is being treated properly.
My main question is why, when she's so exhausted all the time, why she has so much trouble sleeping. I have a checkup with my sleep doctor due (after finishing my cpap trial) and I'm considering asking him if it's worth her getting an appointment with him to see if there may be some sleep disorder at work too.

My personal experience is that one drinks too much coffee/Coke and is stressed too much that when one goes to bed the brain is WIRED!!!!! and won't calm down. Mild pain will also keep you from sleeping well.davidb01 wrote:

Bad sleep will also prevent you from absorbing what she needs too - it becomes a vicious cycle. Many of us find that when we start therapy our whole being changes with respect to medications and OTC stuff. Two cups of coffee is now the max I can handle for example.

Has she been tested for MTHFR gene? Google it and you will see that it has everything to do with what forms of iron supplementation people who carry the gene can use beneficially. This should be looked into.davidb01 wrote:Good suggestions, yes - unfortunately not helpful in our case!

Hmm, I went from AHI of 33 per hour to an average of .5-6 per hour on CPAP but I have not seen the surge of energy noted in your post. Yes, I don't snore but from an energy level no change. So call me a skeptic but I am not buying your story. But, if it is working for you great.

Re: CPAP sucess causing marriage issues
Your math does not compute. If you mean .5 to .6 AHI, that's one thing. If you mean 5 to 6 AHI, that's 35 to 42 awakenings in a 7-hour night. Not many people will feel well waking up 35 or more times per night.Everywhere wrote:.5-6 per hour on CPAP
Use Sleepyhead software and optimize your CPAP therapy.

Boy... I hope one day I feel "energetic" again getting the cpap stuff worked out.
Your lucky you still have a wife. Mine threw me/family/covenants away because she thought I was a lazy loser. Didn't know my problem of constantly being tired was primarily sleep apnea.

I am brand new to this CPAP business, but not new to marriage. Been married 23 years.
I actually get to start CPAP treatment for the first time, tonight. Your story is inspirational!
Would your wife be happy watching a movie by herself why you release some of your new found energy walking, running, or going to the gym? Just like my dogs, you sound like you need to spend some of that energy! Even a 1/2 hour of vigorous exercise may get you back to snuggling for a bit.
