Getting a new BiPAP Please help me choose

Post by bonjour » Sat Dec 03, 2016 6:26 pm

My current machine is an IntelliPAP AutoAdjust Travel CPAP Machine with SmartFlex that I have had since May of 2009 and it has been good to me.
I love the reports that I get with my IntelliPAP and really really want to continue that with BiPAP.

From my Dr. "I will order BiPAP set at 25/21 cm water".

What is the "best" BiPAP to get and be able to perform the same types of actions I can with my IntelliPAP?
Which machines have the BEST available monitoring software?

I look forward to your suggestions.

Fred

Resmed and Respironics are the top in the US. Can't go wrong with either. Both will give you the same info as Intellipap, but in addition, you can access ever more info using Sleepyhead.

My brother is using a Respironics 560 Bipap - the way it runs is the same as the current Dream Station. The Dream Station has the advantage that if you have big fingers or can't bend, it's much easier to change out the water in the humidifier. Both, however, have all data on top of the machine which can make it difficult to see your info unless you are keeping it on top of the stand. It's also a disadvantage if you have a cat who steps on your on/off button.

Resmed has everything slanted so that you can see the data without getting out of bed. IT also prevents cat from stepping on on/off button (ask me how I know this).

The algorithms for both of these are going to be slightly different from Intellipap. Resmed's is more aggressive. For more details, I will leave that for others. I would not consider other brands at this time.

the 560 is an auto cpap, not a bipap.

In terms of available data from the bilevel machines both ResMed and Respironics brands offer excellent detailed data to help you evaluate your therapy.
Both have easy to obtain and use software too.
I have used bilevels in both brands...minor pros and cons with either brand but no really huge deal breaker or deal maker between the 2.
They actually offer more detail than your Devilbiss does.

The most current models of auto bilevels (i.e. bipaps) for Resmed and Philips Respironics are:

Philips Respironics DreamStation BiPAP Auto
Resmed AirCurve 10 VPAP Auto

Both will do everything your IntelliPAP AutoAdjust does. Both record more data than your IntelliPAP. Both are compatible with the newest version of SleepyHead. The official software for both machines is available (for free) over at apneaboard.com.

The PR Dreamstation BiPAP Auto is somewhat less expensive if you are paying out of pocket.

The PR and Resmed bipaps that are one generation back from the current machines are:

Philips Respironics System One (series 60) BiPAP Auto
Resmed S9 VPAP Auto

Both of these machines also do everything your IntelliPAP AutoAdjust does and are fully compatible with SleepyHead.

Thanks everyone.
My current choice is for the Resmed AirCurve 10 VPAP Auto because of it's leak alarm. I'm currently struggling with mouth breathing and mask leaks (working on it)
.

it has to be a very big leak before the alarm goes, just fyi.

Just picked up a ResMed AirCurve 10 VAuto this morning.

Trying it out and i find it a LOT easier than my study titration. A lot smoother.

Thanks everyone for making me aware of what to look for.

You picked an excellent, easy to use machine. With EasyBreathe enabled and using a mask like the p10 nasal pillows, everything is very quiet as well.
