In a previous thread it was ponted out that Encore Pro could be set to retain its data after a download by using regedit to modify a key in the Windows Registry. Mucking with the Registry can be fraught with danger if you don't know what you are doing, but it turns out that Respironics has provided a much simpler way of turning on and off the SmartCard erase after download feature.
Find the installation directory for Encore Pro, and open up the Utilities directory (folder). In my case it is the default
C:\Program Files\Respironics\Encore Pro\Utilities
In that folder you will find two scripts:
Erase data after download.reg
Don't erase data after download.reg
Guess what they do? To do the appropriate thing, all you have to do is double-click on the script.
Now that didn't hurt much - did it?

A simpler way to set Encore Pro to retain data

Cool, Derek! Thanks for the tip, although since the only one who ever looks at my smart card data is me, it's ok with me that it erases after each download. But people who think their doctor or DME might be interested in the smart card info (few seem to be) can certainly use your good info about how to not erase the card. The "readme" file, that I'd never looked at, in the utilities folder mentioned it too.
The reason that I have set Encore Pro to retain the data on the SmartCard is to be able to save long term trend reports (in the first three pages of the download report).
Perhaps my biggest gripe with Encore Pro is the limited capability of presenting reports from multiple downloads. As far as I can tell the only such report is the long term compliance report. Otherwise all reports are based on a single download. I have been exporting my daily data to a spreadsheet in order to plot long term graphs of the various indices.
Here's my new strategy:
1) Set Encore Pro to retain data. (note that it asks you after each download if you want to erase the card)
2) Download weekly so that all daily detail reports (pages 4 on) are saved (assuming the 7-9 days storage capacity stated by Respironics)
3) Erase the card once per month. This way I will have (on pages 1 - 3 of the final weekly download) a summary of the therapy indices for each calendar month.
And of course if I want to review a nights behavior I can download at any time, review the data, and then delete the download from Encore Pro (not the card).
