REMstar Plus C-Flex CPAP

Post by LilBuckaroo » Fri Feb 25, 2005 1:50 pm

Hi y’all,
Yesterday, 02/24, I called my sleep doc with a question pertaining to him prescribing an AutoPAP. He asked a few questions, such as “Did I awaken during the night”? I said, not really, unless nature calls! Then he asked about my days. I told him, that there are days when I am ready to “take on the world”. But, there are other days when it seems as though I can hardly wait to go back to bed. By the way, both he and his partner are very much against Auto’s.

He said he would write a prescription for a Responics C-Flex. I told him that I didn’t know when I would be getting it. He told me when I am ready, call him, and he would fax or mail a prescription at that time.

Now, the real “fun” begins. I went to cpap.com to research prices. Since this one is coming out of my pocket, I want to get it right the first time. Here is what I found:
1) REMstar Pro with humidifier = $679.00
Encore Pro software = $199.00
Total = $878.00

2) REMstar Plus C-Flex CPAP, and REMstar Heated Humidifier = $549.00

They also have a
3) REMstar AUTO C-Flex CPAP = $415.00
REMstar Heated Humidifier = $164.99
Total = $579.99

In my mind and knowing the mindset of my doc, who as stated is against anything “AUTO, I would say that Item 2) is the best.

Would the capability to have the software be beneficial and what would it tell me?

Enough of this rambling for now!

As always, thanks for your input. It is greatly appreciated!

Y’all sleep well, OK?

OK, keep in mind, if you're ordering from CPAP.COM, an Auto is not a different beast. It's like if you're given a prescription for a car, it can apply just as easily to a Mercedes as to a Yugo.

So if you want that auto, order that auto. A prescription for CPAP is sufficient, according to everything I've heard.

Also, my understanding is that the software will do you no good unless you have the Auto.

I'd go for the REMstar Auto CFLEX with humidifier and software, and go nuts.

Liam, who clearly has followed the last two words of his advice.

Yes, cpap.com (and most online sellers) will provide either an auto or a straight cpap as long as you have a prescription for a cpap.
I have the RemStar auto with c-flex, and love it. I also have the software, and it is really useful to see what I do and how I sleep, especially under different circumstances - traveling, with a different style mask, etc.

If you take your doc out of the picture for a moment, why pay a similar amount for a straight CPAP get an auto? The auto can work as a straight CPAP too, so why not give yourself options?

If you do go for the auto, then the software will allow you to analyse your own progress and tinker with the settings until you find the set up that suits you best.

Like you, I had to pay out of my own pocket, and after reading the views of the experienced people in this forum, I decided to pay a little extra up front to get the remstar auto with cflex & heated humidifier. That way, even if I don't use all of the options, I would avoid having to buy a different machine to get the combination that suited me best.

If you can go for it, get the Respironics Auto w/Cflex. It gives you all the options. If you go for a unit without auto, you will spend more on sleep studies to determine later titrations, whereas an auto will do that nightly. One of the reasons suspected that the docs do not like autos...

Thanks for your help,

As I satated, both docs in that practrice are dead set against "AUTO's" of any sort. That being the case, I don't want to walk into their office with an AUTO slung over my shoulder!

Plus, I'm looking at the $300 difference. Not sure that I can go that route at this time!

We all know that April 15 is coming up pretty soon. Don't know how bad or if the "Tax Man" with hit me!!!!

As always, thanks for your help!

Sleep well, my fellow hoseheads!!!!!

Welll, you have a couple of options. You can go with what they want, and in the long run spend a lot more than $300. (in future "required" sleep studies) Or you can fire em, find docs that are more receptive, or you can take their script and go the cpap.com route.

At the VERY least get a machine that has Cflex. That makes sucking on the leafblower a lot more tolerable...
