Sleepyhead can't download

Post by SleepyDeb » Sat Nov 21, 2015 10:44 am

I'm finally getting around to downloading Sleepyhead and my laptop is not allowing me - says it might be dangerous, but when I allow it anyway it looks like it is downloading (giving percentages, etc.) and then it says that it can't be downloaded. Urgh! Any suggestions? I'm not a computer person so I don't even know where to start to figure this out. thanks!

What download link are you using and what operating system is on your computer?
Is it saying it is for sure dangerous or are you seeing the normal Windows warning about anything we download being potentially dangerous?

using this link: http://www.sleepfiles.com/SH2/ and the message says "this type of file could harm your computer."SleepyHead-Testing-0.9.8-1-T3-Windows-Installer.exe". Not sure what my OS is - I have a Dell and I use Explorer. I'm asking to run it, should I save it?

What you are seeing is the standard Windows message that we all get when we download something new.
It doesn't mean that the something is bad...it's just asking you if you want to go ahead with the download.

You need to save it instead of asking it to run it.

Run it...means it will install immediately and it can't do it with SH because it can't install this way.

Save it..means it saves the install files and you open them and then you do the install. I don't remember if this download is compressed/zipped but I think it is...so it has to be unzipped first (right click mouse on the folder and choose "extract all" to unzip it).

This version of SH doesn't "install" like most software programs...instead it is run/opened from within the folder itself. To save time of having to go to the folder every time you want to open SH just go to the file that launches SH (usually the last file in the list of files and folders in that unzipped folder) and right click the mouse over that file and either create a desktop shortcut icon or just "pin to taskbar or startup menu" to have the shortcut easily available.

The link you are using is a safe link...I just wanted to make sure you were in a place that might be prompting something else.

Just tried saving it and it seems to be going through the process and then stops and says that it couldn't be downloaded.

Use Firefox instead of that piece of #@$*& Internet Explorer. A good idea in general.

Pugsy, the SH download files that have "installer" in the name now install automagically. They even figure out 32-bit vs. 64-bit.

Thanks that is good to know. I didn't get my version from that link so I had to do it the other way and haven't needed to get it from that link.

I have no idea why it won't download.
