Mask breathing louder than usual

Post by Morningglory » Thu Feb 11, 2016 9:51 pm

I'm not doing anything different that I'm aware of, but it seems like my mask is breathing much louder than usual. I keep trying to adjust it, but no luck.

I have a Simplus FFM (size medium, and this reminds me to change my sig). I wash my face and mask, put my hair in a ponytail, use a mask liner and an anti-leak strap.

What would cause it to breathe louder? I don't mean whistling or farting, just putting out the air more loudly.

Sometimes the connection into my mask gets loosened, probably by me fumbling with it while I'm trying to seat the mask. Another thing I've noticed is when I am scrunched up in the middle of my pillow, rather than on the edge, the outflow air is noisier and is sometimes redirected at my face. Which bugs me. So I readjust the pillow and that normally takes care of it. Now if you are talking about the Darth Vader breath sound, I have no clue what to do about that.

Do you happen to have un-declawed cats? Once in a long while one may get it's claws into a hose!

Inspect your mask and its cushion carefully under a good, strong light.
Make sure the cushion is seated securely all the way around and there are no cracks hiding in the creases.
The exhaust vent holes should be clean and free of debris, lint, etc.
I have even had to lube a swivel.
Check condition and springiness of the headgear.
Longevity varies; you may need to replace it more often than the "standard" interval.

The two main mask parts that snap together (cushion piece & frame piece) will leak occasionally when the connection becomes un-seated. Sometimes I have to pop the two pieces apart, and then snap them, back together and the leak stops.

It seems to happen as the mask ages, so maybe I shouldn't be so cheap and spring for a knew one, or replace the cushion part.
