Bipap S/T Settings

Post by jdsalcedo2 » Tue Feb 09, 2016 1:54 pm

I am looking for some advice. My daughter has been on the AirCurve 10 Bipap S/T for almost one year. She has had two sleep studies done. The first sleep study had her set at 16/8 with a back up rate of 16(I think that is correct), after 6 months and a 20 lb drop in weight we noticed her events were slowly going up. We had another sleep study and they told me that it showed even on settings of 10/4 she had 0 events; however, since that was a significant drop in her settings, the doctor prescribed her 12/6 with a back up rate of 12. The doctor that performed the actual sleep study told me that if we noticed her events creeping up a little again to call her Pulmonologist Dr. back so we could see if we needed to drop it down to the 10/4. It was the first week of November when she was initially lowered. For November and December her events stayed down; however, about mid January we noticed them slowly creeping back up. It's hard to find anyone that will explain any of this too us. During the first 5 months of treatment she felt better than she has in years, but as the events go up, we notice her feeling more tired. Another thing we noticed before her settings were lowered the first time was that her night time heart rate was running between 50-55 bpm. After the settings were lowered, at least for a while, her HR rant between 66-72 when sleeping but now that the events are going up, her HR is running in the 50s again. She has no heart problems and before the second sleep study, they told us if her settings were too high and causing her to blow off too much carbon dioxide that could make her cold, make her heart rate lower, make her sluggish, etc. My question is whether or not it is time for us to call the Dr. back because I tried once and they didn't want to discuss it yet.

As a parent, when you think you need to call the doctor, it is time to call the doctor.

Truthfully, the issues you describe are probably much more than anyone on the forum would tackle in good conscience. You need a doctor to give you instructions and advice.

I hope you get answers soon and your daughter is feeling better.

Kind regards,
GB
