seeking individuals with moderate-to-severe sleep apnea

Post by jeremycharlton » Fri Feb 05, 2016 3:08 pm

I'm trying to better understand hypoglossal nerve stimulation to treat OSA and want to know your perceptions on the treatment and thoughts on the technology. For those interested in participating in a written (or can be via telephone) survey, please let me know. I'm looking for those who have moderate-to-severe OSA and do not receive benefit or cannot tolerate CPAP. For those who qualify and who complete the survey, happy to offer a $25 gift certificate to your favorite restaurant (as long as can order online)! All information to be confidential and used just for this research.

You can reach me at jeremycharlton@outlook.com.

Best,

JC

We're a bit careful here as to which survey by whom we respond to, so some explanation would help.

I'm trying to figure out why one would seek moderate-to-severe sleep apnea.... usually it finds you when you don't want it

I read it that way, too, Pale Rider. I'd be happy to give them mine.

Hi - thanks for your comments everyone (and the catch in the title which I've corrected .

I'm conducting research into the field of neuromodulation (using implantable devices based on mild electrical stimulation) and trying to evaluate the need for neurostimulation to help those with moderate-to-severe OSA who do not benefit from or cannot tolerate CPAP. This research will be used to see if this organization should consider this area of medicine or not.

Thank you for your time & consideration.

Sincerely

JC

Your idea is already being carried out, if mostly on an experimental basis - are you not aware of it or is your idea different?

Since you are asking for input from obstructive apnea people and not people with central apnea, I assume you talking about something like the Inspire implant where the muscles are stimulated.

You need to edit the title line in the original post. Otherwise, it continues to show up in the index with the original title.

Are you aware that roughly 50% of people who are prescribed CPAP fail with it?

Jeez! Julie, you would have told Soichiro Honda not to start making cars because Henry Ford was already carrying out that idea.

First car was a Ford, now I drive a Honda, if it's any of your business.
