My cpap air is too cold

Post by Swole2112 » Sun Feb 07, 2016 10:25 am

I only recently got my cpap and even though it has a heated humidifier, there are some nights where the air just feels too cold. I don't get any water accumulation like I've heard described with rainout but still... it's a hindrance. I've read about stand alone heated tubing and wondered if that could be a solution. Any thoughts?

I suppose knowing the kind of machine I have would be useful lol. It appears to be a System One by Phillips Repironics. I got it from the VA.

Is the heat turned up on the humidifier? The water should be warm when its on.

You have control over the temperature.

Sign up and log in then people can send you information on how to get the full manual once they know your machine (remove the humidifier and turn it over to get the numbers - like 560 or 460 or 260)

You can make a hose cover or buy one to keep the air warmer if you don't have a heated hose.

This is the standalone heated hose I've used since I started CPAP 12 years ago. I've had the same hose; never had to replace it. It attaches directly to a regular humidifier chamber.

You mention that you have PR One machine. If it's the 60 series, you can buy a heated humidifier made to work with THEIR heated hose, a heated hose that's just for PR One machines. If you have just the regular humidifier chamber, here is an upgrade to that heated hose. I don't know how this compares to the standalone heated hose in how well each one works.

I tried a hose cover and although it helped some, it did not help enough. But that is also something you could try as it might be enough for you.

Turning the heat up on a regular humidifier is designed to put more humidify in the air you're breathing, not necessarily to heat the air. I've never found changing the humidifier setting to make any difference in the temperature of the air.

In order to put more water into the air you have to heat it up. It does make a big difference in the air temperature.

As I mentioned, I've never found it to make any difference. (Neither has my husband.) But obviously as with a lot of things, it can vary from person to person, which is why, again, I said that "I've" never found it to make any difference. Some people may notice a difference, some may not.

With a regular hose, I get ice cube nose.
The warm air keeps my nose feeling OK.
It also keeps the dew away.

Nothing helped me until I got a heated hose. I suffered a lot of sinus problems & pain before getting one. Even ended up with non-allergic rhinitis from the cold air blowing into my sinuses. Hope you get some help.

I rarely use my heated humidifier because I don't like the extra heat it transfers to my bed.

Is Sleepzone the company that bought out Hibernite in Australia

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

I have used a heated hose since day one, except for about a one hour trial at my docs recommendation for not heated.
I don't care if the bedroom temperature is 60' or 80' I don't fiddle with the settings.

As has already been suggested you can upgrade your humidifier and power supply with a kit to be able to use the heated hose.
