Personally, I think many corporations want Americans to be fat and sick, so they can sell their pharmaceuticals and other products like CPAP gear to chronically overweight, unhealthy Americans. [poorly selected image] Dude ... I'm all for freedom of expression and all ... but you have the worst and...

There are many sufferers of OSA that are not FAT, do not over eat and actually eat and live quite healthy -- so the argument that it's fat folks don't hold water and strikes me as just a bit of excrement of the male bovine.....or as a friend of mine says, "That dog don't hunt"..... Is obesity a pro...

Re: Trying the new Quatro out
[quote="kjarels"]I was using the Activa but due to the fact I am a mouth breather decided to try the Quatro but my last night results were terrible. AHI was over 12 and my leakage was 1.76. With the Activa my AHI runs around 3-6 every night and leakage is anywhere from 0.25-0.76. Any suggestions?? A...

Re: Why are so many people being diagnosed with sleep apnea?
Is it because of new technology? I've talked to four people in the last two months that have been diagnosed. Its a combination of things, here are some of the biggies: 1) its a relatively new medical condition, only having been around since the late seventies or so. And treatment for the masses did...

My question is really the backwards version of the question posed in this thread: Why are so many people who have sleep apnea not diagnosed? I really believe that we're just beginning to scratch the surface in terms of the numbers. From http://wrongdiagnosis.com/s/sleep_apnea/notdiag.htm Undiagnose...

I had a Doc a long time ago tell me that our design doesn't bode well for sleeping lying down. I believe him. Probably has something to do with all the apnea around. Probably most folks have it to a degree. My GF snores and snorts all night long. She hasn't had a sleep study, but did the over nite ...

Other people will tell you which of the options would be best, but one thing I'd like to suggest you look out for (don't know if there's much choice though) is that sleep docs so often have a financial stake in your treatment (they either try to sell you equipment outright - which you can refuse I ...

Hmmmmmm so maybe doctors who all they do is sleep medicine are only needed if you have, say perhaps a complex situation? Say central apneas or mixed apnea? Or OSA with some sort of nocturnal movement disorder like RLS or PLMD? I guess what Im saying is I wonder if the sleep specialists are more thor...

Re: Update
My SPO 7500 arrived today. It appears to be the real deal, except that it has the rubber thimble-like finger connection rather than the strap-on/tape-on one. Must the the later model. It came with software. I've already run one report to verify that it works as expected. It does. The software is a ...

There is more to it than how beefy it looks. For me, the most important thing is how often it takes a reading. I had a real nice china model but I found out that it only took a reading once per minutes. That is absolutely useless for my needs at night. The SPO can take readings as often as every 1 ...

Well I ditched the Spo, sent it back and ordered a high end Nonin with Vision software. I tried to get the Spo to work, but the software, while graphically nice, was as one poster described, "tricky" and I couldnt get it to record or download. Screw that. I even called a Spo support person and they ...

Now Im having trouble getting the stuff to download. It downloaded once earlier today during a test, worked fine. I wore it tonight for about an hour, couldnt sleep, got up, plugged it in and it said nothing was on there recorded. WTF? I am using this software on Vista, not XP, but it seemed to down...

Do you use a sleep specialist for CPAP or other doc?
I was prescribed CPAP by a pulmonary doctor who does sleep studies on the side. He's an OK doctor, I thank him for putting me on CPAP as I have gotten somewhat better. However, he has not done much followup on me...just twice in almost a year since being put on CPAP. And when I have had the followup...
