ghost mask

Post by lisajune103161 » Mon Jul 11, 2016 2:44 pm

Hi there,
I have a nasal mask. Does anyone ever feel like their mask is on when its not? I feel it all the time when I am working. I cannot explain it any better. I hope I am not the only strange one!

I have to get up and wash my face then put on lotion. I can smell the plastic and feel how dry it makes my skin otherwise.

I've been here four years (checking in almost every day) and that's the first time I've heard that one. I think it's just you... sorry I can't be more comforting. Maybe it's something like 'phantom limb syndrome', tho hopefully your nose isn't cut off.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

This will go away once you are used to it enough.
In the meantime, meditate on the sensation.
That sometimes forces it to fade more quickly.

Another 'strange one' here, I feel like I have it on a lot, it's an odd sensation isn't it?!

Nice!

I needed this reminder technique today.
(not for ghost mask in *my* case but the technique is valid still)

Thank you, ChunkyFrog.

+1
Began XPAP May 2016. Autoset Pressure min. 8 / max 15. Ramp off. ERP set at 2. No humidity. Sleepyhead software installed and being looked at daily, though only beginning to understand the data.

We're at least two strange ones . I get that sensation too.

There you go, two other sufferers.
As I read these replies I wondered if stress played a role in that feeling... like at work or wherever. If I were you, during the day, I'd try some topical analgesic, like an OTC drugstore anti-itch cream to help you get over the hump. Maybe a hydrocortizone 1% cream, tho some people are fussy about using that. Aloe Vera gel is another idea and I think Gold Bond makes one. Hopefully over a short period of time this feeling will disappear or at least fade into the background. I'm thinking one of these preparations will affect the skin's nerve endings and allow you to think about something else... maybe it'll just make you feel like you're doing something to abate the feeling.

This is exactly what is happening to me now!!!!!! I have a FFM. I know this is an older thread, but did this feeling ever go away for you? It feels like the mask is still on my face when it’s not. I can actually feel the outline on my face of wear mask fits around and the sensation gets stronger when I lay on my side while not wearing the mask. Almost like phantom pain or limb syndrome. No pain though. I’m seriously considering ceasing therapy until I speak with doctor. I did not use my CPAP for 1 night and I still feel it. I’m not sure if it’s physical or if it is psychological. However it is ver unsettling. I’ve tried to wear the mask a bit looser with no relief. Thanks

After my bilateral mastectomy/reconstruction, I stopped wearing bras.
Eventually, I stopped feeling the "ghost bra".
When I undress, though, I still get that pesky back band itchy spot.

Haha! I am sorry to hear about your mastectomy but your description is spot on. My buddy had his leg amputated many years ago and he still feels it. He gets cramps in his toe, calf etc. I didn’t realize some of those phantom pains could go away. Is this what’s happening to me? Psychological?

I don't understand how nerves work, but I understand that most get used to it
to the point that it's not significant.
As for my mastectomy, they got all the cancer (nearly 6 years ago),
and left me with jugs that I can make dance.
Cool party trick . . .
