Titration Question

Post by guttersnipe » Fri Feb 05, 2016 11:52 am

Quick one here, I hope.

I did two home sleep studies instead of an in-lab. I go back next Thursday for my diagnosis and to get a machine if needed.

Since I didn't do a Titration lab, I should be able to use that as a reason I'd want an auto machine instead of a brick if the doctor tries to get me one, right?

With no titration, more than likely it will be an auto they give you with the pressures set wide open 4 - 20. That is how they titrate, although it is not an ideal setting for most people and needs to be fine tuned with your data. Be sure and download Sleepyhead so you can read your data. https://sleep.tnet.com/resources/sleepyhead This site was developed by one of our members here Krevlin. Yeah, I have every intention of getting sleepyhead and staying on top of my data.

Just wanted to know if this was a sensical argument if they try and get me something I don't want.

You don't need to argue with anyone. Know what machine you want and buy it.
You could even call them now and ask if they have the machine you want (if you need one).

Unfortunately I'm not in the financial situation to buy a machine outright. I'll be going through a DME.

Tell the doctor what machine you want and politely ask him to specifically write that machine on the prescription. Tell him to write a separate prescription for the mask. Ask him to write "mask of patient's choice".Get a copy of both prescriptions.

Do you have a choice of DME's, are you using insurance and have to stay in network? Hopefully there are several DME's you can chose between. And you can find one that has the machine you want.

If you are going thru insurance, as I planned to, till I found out that I had to 'rent' the machine for 9 mos...and realized that was going to cost me more than buying one outright from some of the online sites. Just an FYI in case you might find this your situation.

unless you buy your machine used from someone else, you'll be buying from a DME no matter what your financial situation is, since they're the only people that sell cpaps new.

I just moved and have no savings. Was living paycheck to paycheck, and right as i was ready to start saving, I decided to get this taken care of, so I'm going to be working with my doctor to pay off my $1500 deductible over 6 months. Can't afford an $800 cpap in a lump sum.

Did you have a home sleep test because you have Kaiser insurance? That makes a big difference for DME and prescription.
