PR system one pressure adjustment

Post by hegel » Tue Dec 01, 2015 7:13 pm

I should know this but I don't. My PR manual doesn't say how to adjust the pressure. I want to go from a base of 8 to 8.5 and maybe 9. This is a 'new' machine to me and so I'm skittish about playing around with the interface. I mess things up easily so if anyone (Pugsy) has advice please be thorough, or more likely direct me to the appropriate manual on-line.

thanks in advance.

This shows you how. http://www.apneaboard.com/pr-system-one ... structions
If you don't already have the clinical menu you should go here and scroll down the page to section 3. Follow the instructions to get your specific manual by email.

Is it System one Pro with C-flex+? If so, I have the same machine, and I don't know if there is a difference in the menu functioning between the regular system one and the pro version. Its very simple to do. Turn your knob until it is over setup, and then press down on your knob (as if you were turning therapy on or off) and the ramp start button at exactly the same time, and hold both of them down until you hear it beep (around 5 seconds). It will then take you into clinician mode. Scroll over to Setup, and scroll down to CPAP pressure, click your knob, and then turn it to adjust the pressure. If you are on Auto-Trial mode, make sure you set your min and max settings appropriately. Also if you are not able to check your AHI score from the regular menu, under setup in clinician mode there is an option to make it always show.

After you are done with your settings, scroll over to exit and click the knob. It will take you back to the home screen, and will state "SD Card Activity, do not remove" for a brief moment, and then you're done. Also, If you have a modem in that sends your compliance info to your healthcare provider, I would highly advise against doing this. This will more than likely void the contract you have with your DME and insurance provider, and they will no longer pay for the machine.

If compliance is no longer an issue, then disregard that last segment. Also, instead of just outright changing your pressure (unless your doctor told you it was ok and what setting to set it to), I would do an auto-trial of at least 7 days before you blindly change your pressure. Once again, if you already know this and have been on Cpap therapy for some time, please disregard this. I am only stating it in case you are still pretty new to Cpap in general, or new to this machine. If you are going to just adjust your pressure and not do an auto-trial, I recommend not changing more than the setting more than +/- 1. I would personally (just my own preference) titrate myself by 0.5, and use that pressure for at least 3 nights to see if there is any significant change. If your AHI is still undesirable, and you have ruled out any outside variables, titrate it again using the same method. I only say this because if you put your pressure to high, it can cause central apneas to occur and raise your AHI. For instance, I was titrating my own pressure (originally was set at 10 by my doctor), and I put it at 11 right away to see if I would have any benefit from it. First night, my AHI was a 3.5, which is much higher than what my average was before adjusting my pressure (~1.5). So I thought my body needed to maybe adjust to it, so I stuck with it for another week. My AHI stayed high the entire trial, so I set it back down to 10 and my AHI scores went back to normal, and I could feel the difference, if even only slightly.

BTW this was at the very beginning of my treatment, and I was desperate to feel better (which I still struggle with today), but now I am trying not to obsess over the treatment and focus on what I can do to make it better. I do feel a little better today after over 4 months of treatment. So I have faith I am headed in the right direction.

If you already resolved this, sorry for the long rant lol. The members on this forum have been so kind and generous to me that I feel it is only right to help someone out to the best of my ability.

thanks guys; bigsherm, that worked unless I somehow managed to mess something up. Great, I'm at 8.5 min, up from 8. We'll see! May go to 9 if that helps--I had it at 9 on my old machine but it's pressure readings were off and it's hard to tell what the pressure really was.

Thanks again!

Cool, I'm glad you didn't run into any issues! I hope you are able to get the full benefit of Cpap therapy without to much trial and error, as I am still searching for myself.

By the way Bigsherm, your warnings and advice are welcome; it's just, I've been doing this for many years and have self-adjusted my pressure in the past; plus I use Encore basic (not much admired but it seems to suit my purposes) to track my results. And also Pugsy suggested this for an issue that I have, or seconded my own suggestion, so I'm not going about blindly. Still, your words of caution are well founded, especially for new users.

Yea, I probably should of asked first if you are new to treatment or have been on it for quite some time, if I came across the wrong way I am sorry.
