Which cpap machine has an alarm clock?!

Post by GerbilLife » Tue Dec 01, 2015 8:56 pm

My F&P Premo died on me after 3 and half years. My insurance approved an "early replacement" machine but so far the only machine at the sleep clinic that has a display clock and alarm is the F&P. F&P warranty is 2 years and sleep clinic says so many of the F&P machines they issued are malfunctioning outside warranty periods and don't recommend them anymore. The Autosense 10 is available but no clock! Any recommendations?

I'd like to limit what's on nightstand. I guess since the Premo was bigger than other cpap machines they had no choice but to put a clock on it. Just as Amazon echo, when will these machines catch up to the times? I spend 8 to 10 hours a day with it, so where is the clock, the speakers, the usb port to plug in your phone, the calendar, the temperature display, the.....? I don't want a machine that does it all, just more convenient

To heck with a alarm clock, my next one will have a 60 inch led screen, lifetime sat dish, a microwave and fridge, dishwasher and commode, I'll buy a wrist watch. Jim

More shelves by the bed. One would never hold everything, so I have a BIG power strip.
Cpap, hearing aid dryer, FM clock radio, chargers for phone, tablet, and laptop.
Also XM radio and its speaker, table lamp, and my water for when I wake with dry mouth. (Always)

As far as I know the only cpap machine that has a clock and alarm is the F & P machines.

Personally, I'd rather have a clock radio. They're pretty cheap. I bought some years ago at Walmart for about $10 each. When I was working, I had them set out of reach so I had to get up to turn the alarm off. I think since I retired I've only set one ONCE.......in the last six plus years. But, I also have a digital wristwatch that I use more than the clock.

I use a small "atomic" clock that is about the size of a pack of cigarettes and is battery power so no cords (but, you need to tap the top to have it light up for a few seconds to see the time). It is small enough to sit in front of the water tank of my ResMed AirSense 10, therefore, does not block the view of the display or controls.

For "white noise", we use a free Smart Device APP (there are several available for free or a small charge) and then use a small, cheap ($30-40), Bluetooth capable speaker. The speaker can be placed anywhere in the room so we placed our speaker on the opposite side of the room from the smartphone that is tied to a charger.

Between the small clock and the Bluetooth speaker, we have less than $80 tied-up in our system and it works great and does not interfere visually with anything.

Don't you have a smartphone?
Every month or two I find the need for an alarm clock. My Android phone has many more options than any alarm clock I remember. But it has been so many years since I used an actual alarm clock or clock radio, I can't even remember what it looked like.
I think the TV in my bedroom may have a wake up feature, but I haven't paid any attention to it.

Periodically I wish for things to be added to my cpap, too. But there are several problems with this, some alluded to by other posters.

Chief among the problems is that there are too many possibilities to satisfy us all. And if all the bells and whistles were added to the machine, then it would become too large and too expensive. Insurance also might balk at buying you and expensive alarm clock! Increased size is a major issue for those of us who need to travel with our machines!

With add-ons, there's also the problem that manufacturers might try to spend their R&D money on fancy new features rather than the mundane issues related to machine performance, therapy efficacy, and longevity. For health related technology, there's virtue in the KISS principle (keep it simple, stupid.)

Having written all the above, I agree with the OP that it would be nice to have a simple built-in clock with alarm function in it. This need not be large and it need not be expensive. It would especially be useful in a travel cpap because it would mean one less thing to have to pack and carry.

I am unaware of any cpap (other than the F&P machines already mentioned) that include a clock. Maybe this is something that we can look forward to as a future addition to cpaps. (let's also hope that we have the option to turn the display off!)
I'm workin' on it.

More stuff attached to it means more stuff to fail on it.

Why anyone would favour an alarm clock included over a quality cpap machine is beyond me.

I strongly suggest a ResMed A10 or S9 machine. Check the Useful Links in my signature line for more info.

Buy a separate alarm clock. If you can't find a place for it, make some sort of shelf to go above your CPAP machine for the alarm clock.

I would love to see the Zeo technology (or something similar) incorporated into the mask/headgear/machine.
Then my Sleepyhead could lay sleep stage info over the other cool data. --and look even more awesome.
A Bluetooth link to my smartphone could adjust my alarm to avoid deep slumber wake-ups.
(And the inevitable dawn cursing)

Uh...buy a clock? It's not rocket science, there are a gazillion alarm clocks out there and some very tiny and can be set on top of your machine. I use my Itouch with a alarm clock docking station. The Airsense takes up less bedside table real estate, but I believe the DeVilbiss Intellipap is just as small, so there are two options there. If you want to stick with Respironics, there are plenty of small alarm clocks that will fit on it comfortably - my bro has no problem with his 560 Bipap having a small alarm clock on it.
