Noise from my husband's Cpap
Noise from my husband's Cpap
My husband has the full mask on his CPAP. During the night, the noise of the machine is a fast puffing or fast frequent short intake, unlike a normal relaxed breath. It keeps me awake. It's definitely effecting my sleep. HELP.
Re: Noise from my husband's Cpap
We are not mind readers...what machine is he using?

Put on a table fan. It will drown out the cpap.

We have one of these little Homedics sound generators... It's very adjustable in volume and works great, plus is super inexpensive:

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Move to another room. His health is more important. The sound of the death rattle breathing as someone is dying is far more disturbing.

Just so you are forewarned, this type of post has caused alot of controversy in the past because when the spouse complains about cpap noise, they are seen by many posters (not all) as uncaring and insensitive which in my opinion is extremely unfair since not sleeping effects your health also. Anyway, if you could respond back as LSAT suggested with the name of the machine and mask that your husband uses, that would be very helpful.
Here is a link to similar type discussions that might be helpful and hopeful give you some ideas for solutions besides what SNO and Sheriff mentioned which I think are great.

I agree, it's not like she's ranting about it, she's clearly asking for help.49er wrote:Slauritzen wrote:Just so you are forewarned, this type of post has caused alot of controversy in the past because when the spouse complains about cpap noise, they are seen by many posters (not all) as uncaring and insensitive which in my opinion is extremely unfair since not sleeping effects your health also.
I'm curious Slauritzen, did your husband snore before he received treatment and did that keep you up or were you able to sleep through that? The only reason I'm asking is I'm wondering if any/all noise stops you from sleeping, or just certain types of noise?
I don't know how loud it is but one thought that comes to mind is to try some of those calming recordings playing through a radio which can range from music to water sounds, so you hear that instead of the cpap machine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrddaP6 ... 6&index=12
Obviously sleeping in another room is also an option, and one I don't think you should feel guilty about if you need to do that, lots of couple do.
Earbuds are also an option.
Lastly, many cpap machines are now very quiet though not completely silent, so a newer machine might be much different, but without knowing what you have no one can comment on that.
Good luck.

There's also a web site http://www.soundsleeping.com/index.php that I've used when I'm working at home to drown out ambient noise. You could try that, if you could figure out how to make it work for your sleeping. Has nice ocean, rain, etc. sounds that are easy to tune out but cover ambient noise at the same time.Sir NoddinOff wrote:We have one of these little Homedics sound generators... Re: Noise from my husband's Cpap
I put my cpap below the level of the bed. I just slid a shelf board between the mattress and box spring. I then velcroed the machine to the shelf to prevent it from falling off. Helped and was a cheap alternative.
Good Luck!

My CPAP is in my nightstand drawer...The drawer is open just enough to let the hose out.

Re: Noise from my husband's Cpap
I put my CPAP in the top drawer of my night stand and close it as much as possible. Helps a lot with noise. My wife is a very picky sleeper and this helped her a lot.

Re: Noise from my husband's Cpap
The fast puffing may be the CPAP machine sending pressure waves to see if your husband's airway is open. If the fast puffing sounds like the mask is farting then the mask is loose and needs to be adjusted.Slauritzen wrote:My husband has the full mask on his CPAP. Re: Noise from my husband's Cpap
I don't have an APAP, and I use autoramp so any pressure waves would happen when I am asleep. Is this something that people actually observe in the sound of the machine? I am going to experiment with an artificial obstructive apnea tonight to see what I here.ChrisD wrote:The fast puffing may be the CPAP machine sending pressure waves to see if your husband's airway is open. Re: Noise from my husband's Cpap
I did the experiment last night. The pressure pulse noise is barely perceptible. I wouldn't have noticed it if I wasn't listening for it.
