Hose keeps coming off

Post by hose issues » Mon Nov 30, 2015 2:14 pm

I really hope somebody can help.
For some reason the friction fit of the hose to the mask is not working and the darn thing just comes apart many many times a night. I have not had this issue until recently when the weather got cold and I drastically upped the temp of the air coming from the machine as those artic blasts were okay during the summer and early fall but now I need a parka just to keep warm from the airflow. I have plenty of slack in the line so as I move during the night it isn't pulling on the hose. If I keep the hose positioned so the outflow points downward and the hose is up over my face it stays on but if it moves to either side or rotates upward it slides right off the mask. I have 3 more months on the hose according to the insurance provider. I was wondering if I could add some tape to the plastic piece on the mask that inserts into the climateline hose to increase the drag so it won't just slide off. Or does the hose just not last as long as the insurance company says it should?

Standard, non-heated hose?
Have you flipped the ends?
Have you cleaned the inside of the end that keeps coming off? (sometimes they get a little rubber residue inside that needs to be cleaned out occasionally)

If all else fails, it's no problem to wrap a little tape on it to keep it in place.
Or, buy a new one. They're very inexpensive from the online sellers like https://www.cpap.com

You can add a bit of tape or something around the piece on the mask that inserts into the hose.
I use a ClimateLine...have for a long time and I think I probably have well over 5,000 hours on this hose.
I have noticed that on occasion it doesn't seem to grip so great but it hasn't been so bad to come off multiple times during the night...maybe once in a month it might do it. Usually all I have to do is cram the plastic mask part in the hose again and I am good for several weeks.
I do think that it might also depend on the mask used. Recently I tried the new Respironics DreamWear mask and found it to come off more easily with it and had to really cram it in the hose.
So it might be worse with some plastic mask ends than with other masks.

Won't hurt anything to add a little bit of tape or whatever to that plastic end on the mask so that the hose will grip a little better. Don't make it so tight that it won't ever come off though...because you might want to use a new mask later.

thanks for the quick replies. to answer your questions I'm using the climateline hose for the S9 machine with the Amara gel full-face mask. I have cleaned the hose and the mask per the directions and like I said it only started when I upped the heat seating from the lowest possible to 75 F. Glad I don't have to drop the temp back down and can just use some tape to hold it on.

I'm not sure if this is what you mean or not but my hose would get stretched at the rubber end where the hose attaches and become lose. I bought a bunch of "quick connects" from cpap.com and use one on each end of the hose - the end that attaches to the machine/humidifier and the end that attaches to the hose. My hose ends never wear out! Have been doing this for years.
