Newly diagnosed!

Post by Bcatz3 » Sat Nov 28, 2015 10:32 pm

So recently, last Tuesday I was diagnosed with Severe Central Sleep apnea. How long did it take everyone to get their machines? When you go into get your actual results do they give you a temporary one? They did a split sleep study on me, I had the teric? Sorry I know the spelling is off it just starts with a T. They told me that I needed an 12 and it only goes to a 15. I slept with that CPAP machine the first night I noticed a huge difference in myself and in just wondering just how long until I can improve my life.

Hello and welcome. What usually happens at this point is you are going be asked a LOT of questions before anyone can help you much. As far as your split study, usually the first part is the diagnostic study, followed by a titration study to determine the pressure needed. It is curious that you say you have Severe Central Sleep Apnea but mention a CPAP machine, which is not the machine usually chosen when one has that diagnosis. It would really help if you tell us exactly which equipment you have. The best way to do that is to join the forum and select your equipment in your profile. That way everyone who wants to help can see your info without trying to find a post where it was mentioned. With more information, maybe some of those experienced in central sleep apnea will be able to give you some pointers. A step at a time here. If you have copies of your reports, it would be nice to see the exact wording and numbers. If you don't have a copy, do ask for it for your own files. Otherwise we're limited in how meaningful our replies can be. Good luck going forward.

Typically it takes a couple of weeks after your sleep study for the equipment provider selected by your doctor to get in touch with you and then you go into their store and select your machine from their supply. Your new life begins that night. Or maybe I shouldn't have said typically, because there are some slips between diagnosis and treatment. You must be patient, but firm. Keep asking questions of this group and you will get all the answers you need to make decisions.
