Clarifications on ResMed AirCurve 10 ASV

Post by andycole » Sat Nov 28, 2015 12:56 pm

This is one of the latest offerings from ResMed (and ain't cheap). ASV stands for Assisted Servo Ventilation. I was diagnosed after 2 sleep studies with complex Apnea which is combo of obstructive and central apneas. This is the machine I was prescribed. It comes complete with everything except the mask itself. Heated humidifcation and heated hose are supplied. It is quite adjustable and comes with a number of manuals and an SD card. I have been on it about 4 months. It is compatible with SleepyHead software vai the SD card(which I find to be amazing software and FREE). Following is directly from their website and I hope this better explains the device.

ASVAuto mode:
In ASVAuto mode, this bilevel machine not only responds within the breath, adjusting Pressure Support to stabilize respiration, it also automatically adjusts the expiratory pressure in order to provide the minimum pressure required to maintain upper airway patency. It analyzes the state of the patient’s upper airway on a breath-by-breath basis and delivers expiratory pressure within the allowed range.

Did you have a question you wanted to ask Yes, most of us love Sleepyhead

You could definitely buy a pretty decent used car for what a new retail ASV machine goes for these days. However, private sellers on Craigslist or CPAPtalk often have them for around one thousand dollars or sometimes a lot less. I got my first nearly new ASV for a bit over seven hundred dollars and it still works fine.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Posted as point of information. Seems some people are confusing bilevel with ASV.
