Re: Another........."Died in their sleep" story
A sad story for one so young. There's just no way to tell from these initial reports if sleep apnea played a role... it was a little easier to make educated guesses with SCOTUS Judge Scalia. I've always wondered what are the various issues that could cause someone to unexpectedly die in their sleep (relatively young, in this case), especially someone who doesn't present obvious disease symptoms. Guess I'll head off on a Google cruise and check that out when I get some time.Wulfman... wrote:Just saw these links and wondered.........

As a side note: I do love my murder books. Maybe someone's read a fiction murder book about the 'perfect crime' using sleep apnea as the central murder device. Not that the beloved King of Queen's 'Spenser' would ever do something like that.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Right. I realized it was a little early, but that's why I posted it that way, in case somebody else sees an update on it. But, sleep apnea puts stress on our heart and other organs. Lots of people die in their sleep and at various ages. SIDS is believed to be a variation of sleep apnea, so it can affect the very young, too.Sir NoddinOff wrote:A sad story for one so young. She didn't appear to have a "weight problem", but then as we've discussed over the years, many times the SA can be there before and cause the weight gain.

Re: Another........."Died in their sleep" story
I used to work with a lady whose family had two young healthy adults mysteriously die in their sleep, which triggered a look for answers. Said it turned out to be a genetic neurological problem where the brain doesn't tell the body to breathe. I think pretty much all relatives were tested, and my friend said she was told she was at risk. I had no knowledge of central sleep apnea back at that time. In the end, my coworker died peacefully in her sleep a few years after retirement age. She was the epitome of healthy living - walked miles on hills daily just for the fun of it - and had no known health problems. People just figured her death was from the same cause as her daughter and niece.

Re: Another........."Died in their sleep" story
I knew a family whose little girl died at the age of 2 from a heart abnormality in her sleep, and they were just devastated. She had been a normal and active little girl until the night she died in her sleep, so it was a terrible shock.
There was also the case of a young mother in my city who died in her sleep last year, at the age of 24 I seem to recall, and it made headlines because she was a local radio personality, and so was her mother. The post mortem pointed to a "catastrophic cardiac event".

Yep still kicking although the so-called healthcare system tried to take me out over the last year or so. As you may recall I had developed A-fib a while back. Well the A-fib began to cause me to have blackout events along with severe shortness of breath (kind’a scary actually). So I fired my cardiologist (the 5th one in 5 years) since all he was interested in doing for me was the same as the previous ones -- prescribing me poisonous drugs (like anti-arrhythmics, beta-blockers, and coumadin aka-rat poison) that were just as bad or worse than the heart arrhythmias.
I found myself another cardiologist (6th one was a charm) who actually was able to determine that my A-fib was triggering ventricular tachycardia events (putting me at high risk for cardiac arrest). The ventricular tachycardia was responsible for the blackouts and the 220+ heart rates I was experiencing (very likely as a consequence of the amiodarone anti-arrhythmic poison Rx’ed by the previous idiot). So I got a referral to one of the top world catheter ablation specialists to fix the problem. Well he ended up accidentally burning a pin-hole through the left atrium of my heart which lead to a complication of pericardial effusion (the sack around the heart filled up with blood) and they had to do an emergency procedure to fix that fubar (punch a hole in my chest and stick a plastic tube in to drain the sack). That left me in intensive care for about 3 or 4 days of severe pain all doped up on morphine (which didn’t seem to work on me) … however they never removed the catheter used for the ablation out of my groin the whole time I was in intensive care unit. So when they moved me out of intensive care to a regular room, some flunky nurse pulled out the catheter the wrong way (as I was to learn later).
After a few more days in a regular hospital room, they finally sent me home and in less than 24 hours after arriving home, my left femoral vein burst and I found myself in severe pain (again) in the emergency room where they diagnosed me with the bursted vein which had leaked blood throughout my quadricepts muscle tissue. So they had to get me a vascular surgeon to open up my groin to repair the vein -- and during the operation, the idiot anesthesiologist wasn’t paying attention and I woke up before they finished … in absolute horrifying pain (again) – they had to call in several nurses to come hold me down while they finished stitching me up. Anyway, there was nerve damage (I still have numbness in my inner thigh) and it took about 6 months before I could walk without any pain.
Oh and did I mention the idiot anesthesiologist? Before going into the OR, I told the anesthesiologist that I had severe OSA and he said not to worry about it because he was going to stick a tube down my throat that would prevent any OSA from occurring. After the operation, I noticed that I had a chipped front tooth and a busted upper lip. I don't know how it happened or who was responsible but I suspect it was the idiot anesthesiologist.
Then 9 months later, just when I thought I had mostly recovered from the ordeal … I got pericarditis (severe chest pains again, due to inflammation) that sent me back to the emergency room where they gave me morphine and high-dose ibuprofen for a day and a half. The docs there said that the pericarditis was likely due to a delayed infection which is not uncommon for people who have had pericardial effusions … prognosis is that now I may be susceptible to future events of pericarditis.
Yeah baby! The best healthcare money can buy. I do have to admit though that so far, my A-fib and the associated V-tachs seem to be cured … only 6 years after they should have been taken care of in the first place, and with some painful complications, and perhaps a lifetime of future pericarditis events … So yeah, it beats being dead from the failure of the first 5 incompetent cardiologists and the healthcare system in general. And it’s good to still be kicking.
How’ve you been?

I've had my share of health issues in the last five years and time takes its toll on all the moving (and non-moving) parts.
But, I'm sorry to hear about your health issues and challenges with the healthcare system. That sucks!
Wishing you the best for good health in the future.
Your continued presence on the forum would be appreciated.

Although we've often discussed that Sleep Apnea can be a cause of "weight gain" and losing weight doesn't necessarily get rid of the SA, after seeing more pictures of her, it would appear that she has had some weight fluctuation over time. I only saw a couple of pictures of her when I started this thread. And, again, Sleep Apnea can often be present without additional weight.
We still don't know what the cause of her death was, but to me, it's always suspicious when it happens in a person's sleep.
And, oftentimes, the "cause" won't be listed as Sleep Apnea. It'll be listed as something like a heart attack.

Re: Another........."Died in their sleep" story
Speaking of young deaths from sleep apnea, a 39-year old in-law of my wife's died in his sleep from sleep apnea some time ago. Not sure if it was diagnosed or not before he died. Haven't had the urge to dig into the full story, that would be difficult, but that's the short story. Pretty sad, and one of the reasons that my wife bugged me until I got a sleep study done *smile*.

Hey Kathy! Thanks. Hope you're doing well. Miss all you guys and gals.
And Thanks to you too Den, for the invite .... but you know me -- My thoughts and views are way too extreme for folks around here (or anywhere else for that matter).
Best I that keep them to myself and mitigate the cortisol levels, blood pressures, and heart rates for the health and safety of the forum. Do stay aware for this summer as it's building up potential to be "the one". Mr. Krap and Ms. Fan are itching for a rendezvous.
Take care friends. I'll drop a note if I come across anything that won't be too upsetting to the sleep deprived.
Learn some permaculture people! ... while it's easy peasy.

Re: Another........."Died in their sleep" story
My maternal grandmother died in her sleep at the "young" age of 62. I inherited most of my physical attributes from that branch of the family, so I have to wonder.
