PR System one 560 heated hose

Post by Hawthorne » Wed Nov 25, 2015 5:51 am

I have almost always used passive humidity (water in chamber - no heat). Since I got the 560 System One, I have been using some heat with my humidifier (1 or 2). I am thinking of getting the heated hose converter kit, since it is winter here. For those of you with the heated hose for this machine, what do you like about it over regular heated humidity? What benefit is it to you?

With the regular heated humidifier, there is rainout in the plain hose depending on the humidity level and room temperature.

With the heated hose, the rainout is almost eliminated under the same conditions. For most, it is completely eliminated.

What I like most is I can get a constant humidity and have the hose air temp at separate controls without messing with the humidity delivered unless I want to.
A person can have as little (or none even) or max added humidity and can change the air temp in the hose.

What feels good in the summer for me in terms of air temp doesn't feel good in the winter because the bedroom is lot colder in the winter. But I don't want to vary my humidity levels because my nose is used to it a certain way and when I change it then I have problems.

Of course especially useful for rain out control but it would be useful for me just from hose air temp control even if I didn't prefer max humidity.
It would be useful for someone who preferred minimal added moisture whose bedroom was colder in the winter and they simply didn't care for the cold air. It all depends on how warm they keep their house.
I would roast in my mom's house at night because she keeps her house a lot warmer than I do my house.
I turn the heat way down at night. Saves fuel and I like to snuggle under the covers but my nose doesn't like that cold air going up my nose. I had lots of wake ups due to nose hurting from the cold even at maximum humidity setting with a regular hose and a hose cozy didn't really help and the weight was annoying pulling on my mask.

Thanks for the responses, JDS74 and Pugsy!
Pugsy - does this mean I can still use just passive humidity and leave the heated hose attached?

I am pretty sure you can just use passive humidity if that is what you wish and still be able to adjust the hose air temp anyway you want...it starts with 4 degrees about room temp at the setting of 1 for temp and goes up from there.
See product description for more detail on temps
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/pr-sys ... ifier.html
When the heated hose is attached you have to go into the clinical setup menu to set the humidity and normally the settings are 1 to 3.
Give me just a little bit to dig out my 760 machine and see if it will let me set it to off instead of 1, 2 or 3 for humidity. I think it will but let me confirm to be sure.

I was wrong. With the heated hose attached I don't get a choice for "Off" for the humidity level.
All I get are the 3 choices with 1 being 70%
I can do it with the S9 but not with the 760 machine.

Thanks again, for checking that out Pugsy! I will change hoses if I go to passive again.

I have the PR 560 with heated hose; when I use it with the heat off (on the dial, not in the menu) I don't use as much water as when I have the heater turned up, even at level 1. So, here in Minnesota winters, I often run through a full tank, whereas in the summer I go through very little water, filling the tank about a third of the way. Another advantage is that in winter with the house heat turned down at night, I feel the warmth in the hose. I have only the heated hose, use it year round.

--so library lady--- you leave the heated hose on the machine year round. In the summer you set the humidity at 0 on the machine and use less water. Are you then using passive mode (no heat) in the summer and still have the heated hose on the machine? I'm trying to get this straight in my head!
Thanks

I set the humidity and the hose heat when I got my PRS1 960 two years ago.
I haven't fussed with it since.
I have used a heated hose year round for 5 years now.

Year 'round for me too, and like Pugsy, I leave my humidity level on 3 and fiddle with the temp. only during the different seasons.

On my AirSense 10, I have just left it set to auto as it seems to work well for me that way. I usually use between half and three-quarters of water in the tank each night.

BTW, the hose doesn't make the air you breathe feel warmer, just more moist.
