Re: Allergic to the silicone mask...help!
I like Chunkyfrog's suggestion. There are also fabric liners available. I tried several of them before settling on a chin strap and p10 for my needs. Here is a supplier that sews them by hand and will readily accept custom orders: http://www.padacheek.com EDIT: I just noticed the OP date as well. LO...

Re: Had to do a sleep test for a new CPAP even after 17 years!
Medicare and Medicare Medicare Advantage Plans REQUIRE a new test to meet criteria to supply a new machine is what my sleep Dr told me. I was diagnosed in 2011, wanted to get a new machine, but Doc said I need another sleep test. I can't afford the co-pay so not doing it right now. Just hoping my m...

Re: Noisy Resmed Airsense 10
Try putting the machine on a soft pad or cloth on that table and then covering it with a towel of t-shirt. It will be quiet and you'll get better mileage out of your filters. I put a towel under mine as well. Helps to dampen the sound a bit. Plus the pressure makes a big difference. I swapped machi...

Ouch... I always wondered what a hospital study would cost vs a private lab.zoocrewphoto wrote:

Re: what does a sleep study cost
Between myself and 2 other family members, all 3 were billed at $2k to $3k for in lab split studies. That means the first few hours were observational and the last half of the night was titration. In all 3 cases the insurance companies allowed $700 to $800 for each study and the rest was written off...

Re: Not sure if this is a taboo topic around here but..
Weed, Xanax, alcohol (not at the same time!) all reduce my AHI. No idea why. Cliff is right. Truth is there are a lot of theories about sleep apnea but it is a complex issue that is still in the experimental stage of treatment. Personally I think it's fascinating that CNS depressants decrease apnea...

Re: How does CPAP usage get reported to Medicare?
The NSA... LOL As for Medicare, compliance is only required for the first CPAP machine. Thereafter the DME is supposed to get annual medical notes from the treating doctor to the effect of "the patient is still using and benefitting from CPAP therapy". That's it. Anything beyond that is a personal ...

Re: Question about Replacement CPAP with Medicare
I just went through this with my father's 5 year old machine. It's easy. All the doctor and supplier need is a justification to put in their files in the unlikely event that Medicare audits their records. Common reasons (take your pick): 1) Machine has gotten louder over the years and makes it harde...

Re: Water Chamber Not Large Enough
I had the same problem and its unfortunate the cpap manufacturers still do not offer larger water chambers. Here are my workarounds: Use a room humidifer to add moisture to the air before it enters the cpap. I use a 4 or 5 gallon model that I refill daily. Use a nose pillow mask since the vent rate ...

Re: Las Vegas/Henderson CPAP Talk
I am also in Vegas and have had good experiences with Bennett, Apria and Vital Care (Rotech). I find the key to avoiding bricks is to make sure the doctor writes a specific rx so the dme has no choice. @HST - What doctors do you recommend? I have been going to Zebba, but the 1 to 2 hour wait time at...

Re: backup CPAP for sale: PR System One Auto 560P
Keep in mind $450 is the price for a new sealed unit with 2 year warranty. So you will have to be substantially cheaper for someone to risk a private party sale without a warranty.

Re: A10 makes noise during inhale
I have two A10s with the same problem. Both have folded towels under them to reduce the noise. Also the pressure makes a big difference. My wife's unit in the 5 to 10 range is much quiter than mine at 11 to 13. I even swapped the units and pressure settings, same noise on both. That is probably why ...

Re: New Mask from Philips Respironics
My wife did a medical trial a few months ago with the Dreamwear. She loved how comfortable it was, especially compared to the wisp (control/comparison mask for the study). Unfortunately it was prone to large leaks and she ended up preferring the P10. She has a small nose so that might be a factor.
