Re: Is Anybody Happy with CPAP? Did Anyone...?
Remember that people tend to post when they feel strongly about something, and they feel strongest when they've got a gripe about something. This is very true. I am one of those that feels very strongly about my husband's CPAP therapy, but he's doing well, we're doing well, so I gradually stopped c...

Re: Pillow for side/stomach sleepers--simple mod
Glad you like the idea. This particular pillow isn't a solid mass of foam, it's made of shredded memory foam bits, so it's not really 'cut-able'. I was thinking that this might also work for pillows that are stuffed with polyester fill. For solid foam pillows, I think cutting might be the better opt...

Pillow for side/stomach sleepers--simple mod
For any CPAPers out there who like to sleep in the side-stomach position, I wanted to share something I did to my husband's Tempurpedic Comfortpillow. He really likes this memory foam pillow, and none of the CPAP pillows we saw really interested him. To make a space for his mask, I cinched the pillo...

Re: Apnea without being tired ???
My husband has OSA. He insisted that he wasn't tired and was not affected by his OSA. After a few months on CPAP, I saw a huge difference. His skin color is no longer pasty and white in the morning--it's normal. He stays awake long enough to talk to me at night, rather than sitting down and falling ...

Re: Bed thread: Slightly OT
When we were shopping for a mattress, we tried out the Tempur Pedics and found that the 'wet sand' feel just didn't appeal to us. Many people swear by them, but we found them hard to move around on--but you sure didn't feel it if your partner could manage to roll over! When you go out mattress shopp...

I'd be interested in hearing, too, if sleeping on your back is bad even if you are on CPAP. Doesn't CPAP eliminate the problem stated above?

My first thought when reading that treatment MIGHT decrease the risk is "duh, ya think?" Left untreated, there are many conditions that will prove fatal. It stands to reason that people with untreated diabetes/heart conditions/you name it have a higher risk of death than those who have those conditi...

Welcome, Charlie, and congratulations to your family!! Sleep doctors aren't the only incompetent doctors out there. Well, you sure said it!! I remember well the frustration we experienced when my daughter was born 2 months early. I'd had a few months of bed rest to read up on preemie care, and butte...

Hi Ado, Don't worry about what your wife thinks. If she pushed you for treatment, then she knows something about Apnea, and she was worried about you. As a wife, I can tell you exactly what she's thinking. "What a relief!!" Now she can tolerate you sleeping in the same bed with her, and you both get...

My husband has used nothing but RO water in his CPAP humidifier, and it has worked just fine for the last two years--no smells/no residue. We also live in WI and have very hard water with a lot of iron in it as well. We have one of the overpriced Kenetico systems and it has worked just fine for the ...

Babs, My son has asthma, and when he's really bad, Albuterol actually makes him worse! The Dr. finally switched him to Xopenex, which is a highly refined form of Albuterol. He uses a bit less of it, 2 puffs instead of 2-4. Works like a charm, and also doesn't make him jittery. Bonus: The ins. co-pay...

Well, my husband had a different experience with Apria--a very positive one! Once his sleep study was completed and he was officially diagnosed with "severe OSA", they had him in their office in a matter of days to fit his mask and get him started. At that time, we hadn't found this board, so he end...

More for your money... I completely understand and agree! You'll find that a one pound box of salt goes a long, long way in your neti pot.... For the benefits, it's one of the best values around! Just be sure to keep it in a container with a nice tight seal. Those additives in the other salts keep i...

Your $.49 box of salt may be just fine. I pay around that much for a one pound box and there's nothing in there but salt--I read the label. It's Morton Canning and Pickling Salt. On the front of the box it says "Plain Salt, Nothing Added", and the label only lists "salt", not aluminum or anything el...

Just an observation: While everyone who has responded here has NOT had success with the surgury, IF there is anyone out there that WAS cured long term of OSA, the likely wouldn't be lurking here. Folks tend to move on after awhile if there is a subject that no longer pertains to them. That said, whe...
