Hunting for obscure part for ResMed S8 Elite II
Hunting for obscure part for ResMed S8 Elite II
Home unit is an S9 + Humidifier, very happy with it. May go to an S10 early next year.
Camping unit is an S8, no humidifier. I'd like to find the mythical ResMed Whisper Cap for S8 machines, but after calling literally 15+ people and having to cancel one order as the part (no longer made) was on indefinite backorder, I'm turning here. Doesn't help that Respironics has a product by the same name.
Anyone have one of these they'd be willing to part with? Or seen one in the wild? International is fine, I'd pay shipping and send beer...
Places I've tried so far:
cpap.com (Not in stock, no word on availability)
secondwindcpap.com (Tim's never heard of it)
http://www.cpapsupplyusa.com (Not on web page)
http://www.cpapplus.com (Ditto)
http://www.youneedsleep.com (Yep)
http://www.sleeprestfully.com ("WHISPER... like speaking softly? CAP..." *sigh* *Click*)
http://www.cpap-supply.com (Not on web page)
http://www.1800cpap.com (Nope)
http://www.mycpap.com (Yes, I have a more recent machine I use, this is for a camping rig... no I just returned a Z1 CPAP, thanks...)
http://www.cpapsuperstore.com (You put it on the machine in place of the humidifier to make it more quiet, was about $50...)
http://www.cpapusa.com (Thanks for playing, though.)
http://www.cpapxchange.com (Thanks, but the Respironics one won't work.)
http://www.acbio.com/medical-equipment-repair (Never heard of it. Did you try secondwindcpap?)
http://www.advanscpap.com/cpap-repair (W as in whiskey, H as in Hotel, I as in India... *Headdesk*)
Thanks for a place to ask, and hopefully receive relevant answers...

Re: Hunting for obscure part for ResMed S8 Elite II
It does exist: https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... t-cap.html
I should have at least posted a link to the item, which explains its function: Removes noise.
Thanks for reading - yes, Den, that's what it is.
CPAP.com doesn't have it in stock and there's no information on when another will be available.

By the way, I had never seen or heard of the ResMed "Whisper Cap"......only the Respironics one for the M Series machines.

Re: Hunting for obscure part for ResMed S8 Elite II
I ordered it today around 10am, got a "backordered notice", chatted and got a "no info on when it will be available."
*Sigh* Maybe that's why people are thinking I'm not doing my due diligence? I really have, promise.
I really did make 15+ phone calls and web searches over 6 hours looking for this thing.
*Shrugs* Maybe someone will read this and think "hey, got an old one of them laying around..."

S'hand,
It almost seems as though you're rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. Newer machines don't require aux./add-on noise abatement devices and offer equal or better therapy performance. I'm wondering why you're looking to accessorize an old machine, sentimental attachment/nostalgia ? Anyway...good luck in your quest ! I'm currently searching for an ignition module for a 31 year old Japanese chainsaw. Not optimistic about my prospects, though.

Get OSCAR

If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

Have you tried attaching an S8 humidifier without water in it?
On Respironics 50 and 60 series machines that provides some noise reduction.

Re: Hunting for obscure part for ResMed S8 Elite II
The humidifier is a decent idea - on DC power the S8 doesn't use it, even when connected. Just didn't think finding the piece would involve so much backlash, you know? *Shrugs* People.
Why: The S8 can, without a power brick and using a non-proprietary power cable, handle 120-240v/50-60Hz, and has a standard 2.5x5.5mm (but center-negative, adapter was $2) 12v DC connector. It's pretty much the perfect travel machine. Add a battery pack that puts out 12v (RAC 23000mAh, for example, $100), and you can get 4 nights of 7.5 hours' sleep (treatment 14, 10 minute ramp from 10). Battery pack charges 50% in 6-8 hours with the 27W packable solar panel I use. Used the S8 is about $250, so loss/damage is less of a concern, and it's a good backup system for power loss.
