WISP MASK and welt on nose

Please help: I have had much difficulties with CPAP nasal masks. Pillow masks fit great, but stuffs up my nose. I so very much want to stick with the WISP nasal mask. (I have tried all other nasal masks and they do not work and leak). Problem is, I have a swollen welt on the bridge of my nose, with the Medium and Large. The old, if I loosen up the straps, all the air comes leaking out. I think when I lay on my side, the mask pulls tighter on the bridge of my nose? I do use a band-aid on the bridge of my nose and it doesn't matter, my bridge of the nose still has a swollen welt. Does anyone have any suggestions using this mask, please? The bridge of my nose is so sore this morning at work, I need to take a Tylenol. Thank you very much.

I use the Wisp and this is how to fit it:

(FIrst, try a blister bandaid, meant for fingers, on your sore nose. It will help!).

Lie down in bed. Loosen ALL the straps on the Wisp (fold the Velcro over to catch loosely) and place it over your nose.

Turn on the machine.

Tighten the lower straps first. Then tighten the upper straps just enough to stop leaking. Now roll over to your preferred sleeping side and readjust as necessary, trying to put as little pressure as possible on the top of your nose.

The mask should be fairly tight under your nose, but loose on the top, letting the air cushion fill and hug your nose to create the seal.

So sorry to hear about the welt.

Choosing between the two sizes will depend on how the mask part fits on your nose.

I agree for the Wisp the bottom tightening the bottom strap first and the top just a bit. The Wisp comes with an "original" size headgear. A smaller and a larger size headgear is available. Do not know it that would make a difference in your case.

I am assuming you washed your mask with soap and water.

Do you have another mask to use until your nose gets better?

If not and you are not allergic to tape, what about:

playing with the raised corn protectors.

mole skin (not sure about this one, depending on your welt) I have used mole skin in the past where there was rubbing to prevent blisters on the back of the heal.

I know someone with just a bit of to much tightening nose gets red. I know someone who got more leaks with a bigger size, yet the bigger size felt more comfortable. Maybe the smaller size was a better fit. I do not know. Still playing with sizes.

I used the Wisp (small) for my titration and really wanted to love it. But after about 4 or 5 days I started to develop the welt which ended up as an open pressure sore. I tried the liquicell pads but my skin is extremely sensitive and the adhesive was a problem. I also tried the gecko gel cushion but it still didn't stop the sores. I tried the AirFit N10, similar but a little smaller but still had problems with it. Finally tried the Swift FX Nano for Her. It was just a tiny bit shorter, didn't hit the problem spot and worked for me. You may just need something that doesn't quite hit that spot.

Thank you all. I will try all the wonderful suggestions on here, and see if it can work. Again, like most masks, if you loosen it too much, it leaks air, too tight and pressure bruises. And why do they always show the man in the demonstration video on his back instead of his side? I am good on my back with it (although a side sleeper) and as soon as I get on my side, the mask pulls and tightens up the Wisp mask. I do have a large humped bridge of a nose, and I did use a Large. I will try these suggestions. Thank you, I will try all your great suggestions.

How is your nose doing today. You need to avoid breaking the skin. I think that is worse.

Are the straps evenly pulled from the mask?

Maybe on back because without a machine it is difficult and wishful thinking or most likely because the I think on the back the mask becomes looser? Just a thought.

You can compensate for side sleeping by keepingm the mask a little looser on the side against the pillow, and a little tighter on the other side. That gives the mask a little "play" to accommodate the bed pillow.

I also had problems with the Wisp and nose bridge "bruise" which I couldn't overcome (I suspect my failing) but I was rescued by the P10. Also the P10 could handle side sleeping easier without any intervention on my part. Everyone is different though.....
