SleepyHead on Mac vs. Windows

Post by curems » Tue Oct 06, 2015 4:00 am

My reports look great! But why am I seeing a different leak rate for the same night between the computers? Everything appears to match (as I would expect) except the leak rate. It's still not a large leak but the max leak rate is consistently different between the two computers varying by about 5-7 on average.

On my pc:

And on my Mac:

Just curious about the differences!

Looks like the total leak numbers match in both versions and it is the "Leak" number that varies and that's the bottom leak line on the graph or excess leak numbers.

Mark had a lot of problems coming up with codes for calculating excess leak only with the Respironics machines because it varies with the pressure variance when in apap mode. For this reason I usually tell people that this "leak" number for excess leak is a close approximation and not necessarily spot on accurate.
I usually tell people to just look at the total leak number and use that as it is more consistent and what we normally talk about.
As to why the difference...I suspect just a minor coding difference for that particular value calculation.
I don't know for sure but it's the only thing that makes sense. Whatever he came up with for doing the excess leak only calculations are slightly different between the 2 versions.

The difference is tiny and really irrelevant. You could use Encore Basic on the Windows computer and set it to show unintentional leak only and compare what it shows if you want to do the work. See which calculation more closely matches up with what Encore shows but it's going to be hard to do because Encore just gives an overall average number and not the min/avg/90%/max numbers.
You could visually compare the graphs but your leaks are so minimal and with the way Encore shows them you might not be able to see the differences due to the scale involved and Encore doesn't allow changing the scale.

It looks like the PC version uses a 0 baseline for excess leak where the Mac version appears to be using around 5 L/min as baseline. Why it does that I don't know but I wouldn't be surprise to see the Windows version more closely match up with what Encore would show when "unintentional leak" is selected.

Since this particular data point (excess only leak) in SleepyHead is known to be a bit iffy....I wouldn't spend an inordinate amount of time trying to sort it out unless I just wanted to scratch that curiosity itch.
