Ever used an SD Card extender with your CPAP unit ?

Post by Physician » Sat Mar 27, 2021 1:55 pm

Some members here rarely remove the SD card for fear of damaging the SD slot. Has anyone here used an SD card extension cable? It might look silly having a flat cable come out from the machine, with or with a cover, but it will preserve the SD card mechanism in the machine and makes for easier access with the AS10.

Google SD card extension (or micro SD card extension). They are < $12.

Haven’t used it but sounds like a great idea.

+1
That's the first question.

The second question is how often do people remove the SD card? Since my CPAP therapy is stable, I rarely remove the card more than once per month. A quick check upon arising each day of the machine display report is sufficient information.

The third question is about the greater likelihood of pulling on the extender cord and damaging the machine reader mechanism.

I ordered the cord:

1. I remove the card at least monthly
2. The end of the extension has no moving parts, unlike the machine
3. Far more convenient. No cover to open.
4. End of extension can be secured to prevent pulling at the machine slot.

Will see if the side cover can be closed when the cable exits.

Don't know anyone who has had the slot in the machine break, but the concern has been posted here and elsewhere.

Yeah, opening the 1 1/2" X 1" access cover once a month is quite the hassle.

Once monthly X 12 = 12 times a year. Worrisome wear and tear.

Your machine. Your money.

You're welcome. :)

Great.

Now please address #2 and #4, and propound, assert, and elaborate on the drawbacks of the extension cable, the harm of having the card inches closer to the laptop, and if you want me to stop shipment or return it.

You're welcome. :) :)

Since D.H. left, someone had to become the least relevant poster on here.

No, but I have learned SD cards in laptops are unreliable and tend to corrupt files. I never count on SD for storage, just quality hadr drives and usb 3.1 or better. I know SD is all cpaps use but move the files to a better storage media if tou want to archive them. Jim

I have never had an SD card go bad inside of the laptop. Never had an SD card go bad in a handheld digital camera or in security cameras. What brands were you using?

I did not bring up this issue. Several other members did. Do a thorough search of this forum and you'll find the posts. I'm not concerned about damaging the SD slot but I prefer the extension cord for other reasons.
