Hello All!
I am new to CPAP and new to the boards! I've been using my CPAP machine for about 1 week playing with various humidity, temperature and mask settings for comfort. At first I wasn't having a problem with my mask, but 2 nights ago I woke up with a great deal of irritation and soreness around my nose. Someone suggested that I use a piece of gauze to cushion the mask and reduce the irritation, but I'm sure that will mess up the seal and cause leakage.
So, to my question as I'm sure others have experienced this...
What have you done beyond possibly changing masks?
Are the nasal pillows comfortable? (When I tried it in the lab it was not, but maybe that was because I was new, nervous and unsure).

Re: Eson Mask irritation
I use a gecko cushion and it works well for me. No leads. Box shows that it is by Resmed, but I am sure CPAP has it on their website.

- Observe how the hose runs from the machine to the mask. Manage your hose in such a way that it does not pull on the mask when you move in the bed. You need some slack in the hose. Check when you bed down that the slack is there.Suneejam wrote:What have you done beyond possibly changing masks?
- Follow the manufacturer's instructions on how to adjust the mask headgear. There is a medium range, not too loose and not too tight, that needs to be achieved.
- Use a small amount of Lansinoh lanolin on irritated areas.

Thank you for your suggestions ChicagoGranny and R1200ST.
R1200ST - My Resp. Tech advised me about these, I will look into them
ChicagoGranny - Until I try the Gecko cushion I will definitely be using the lanolin. I'm new at this so I will be playing with the positioning of the tubing. My physician ordered heated tubing which I'm told is not as long as non-heated tubing, so I will be paying more attention to my positioning. I'm so frustrated with the head gear, as I thought i found a happy place until the irritation

Re: Eson Mask irritation
According to cpap.com product spec page the heated hose for the new AirSense machines is 78 inches long.
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... ve-10.html
and the non heated slimline hose is 71 inches long
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... #specs-tab
So whomever told you that the heated hose was shorter is incorrect.
