removing head gear after going to sleep

Post by happy-go-lucky » Sat Oct 03, 2015 8:32 am

Soon after I go to sleep with cpap and mask well adjusted, I wake up shortly after to remove it. I go back to sleep for the rest of the night. Anyone know why I'm doing that? Is the machine or me?

Not an uncommon problem, lots of folks have gone through this taking the mask off bit. Three suggestions........
1. wear the mask during the day or evening while reading or watchin tv (without the machine) to get you used to it...... your brain is telling you "get this THING off my face"
2; wear mittens to bed, its a little hard to take off your mask with mittens on
3' use a little tape to tape the mask to your face... it will hurt when you try to ply off the tape and will wake you up.

Number 1 is the easiest an usually the most efficient, it will train you in no time to keep the mask ON and be comfortable with it.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

I'm from the 'just tape that sucker down' school. Try it and soon you will be out of that nasty habit and sleeping thru the night with your mask still on your face. I like Nexcare multipore tape cuz it comes off easily but even masking tape will work if your skin is not oily at bedtime. A few pieces should be enough, you don't need to go overboard.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Wearing the mask while watching TV or reading can help you get used to it.
Doing it with the blower on will help even more, but it will add usage time to the record.
No biggie, unless you feel it might be "cheating". I won't tell anyone. I promise.
