I haven't been here in awhile
My cpap therapy has been working so incredible well...
Until a little over a month ago. Now I am getting extremely bad gas again and its waking up several times during the night. I thought it would pass, but its been over a month and no relief in sight. The only thing I have changed is I have cleaned up my diet. I started the whole 30, and have eaten immaculately. I have lost 17lbs. I'm down from 230 to 213 and I am exercising more.
I have felt spectacular, but now my lack of good sleep is catching up with me and I'm feeling tired during the day again.
Could a high protein diet, higher fat diet cause my gas. To be honest, I don't eat that much at all. and its at least 5 hours before I go to bed after my last meal.
So frustrating, I thought I had this licked.

Without knowing what you're eating, it's hard to say.araris wrote:My cpap therapy has been working so incredible well...

Something could be causing more stomach acid.
Also, without knowing what equipment and settings you're using, it's hard to make recommendations.
Have you tried sleeping on your left side and/or elevating the head of your bed?
Sounds like your LES (stomach opening) may be causing the problem.

Re: I haven't been here in awhile
The whole 30 is a simple diet. I can eat meat, vegetables, fruit (twice a day), and tree nuts. That's it.
I am using an respironics apap. setting is 8-10. I have struggled with gas for three years with this thing. However, four the past four-five months I have only had minimal gas. Now for the past month it's back full force. Sucks so bad. I was enjoying sleep again. Now I'm strarting to dread it once more.
If I sleep on my back with my chin tucked to my chest, I don't get any gas. The issue is that as soon as I roll over to my sides I get the gas. It doesn't matter if it;s left or right.

Try searching for aerophagia on this forum. Lot's of tips over the years. 441 pages last time I looked! As Den said: LES is something to talk to your doctor about ... also do a search on that. ie. Lower Esophageal Sphincter.araris wrote:The whole 30 is a simple diet. I can eat meat, vegetables, fruit (twice a day), and tree nuts. That's it.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

I'm going to stop drinking coffee and hopefully that helps solve some of my issues. I know that I have been drinking alot more coffee rececntly

Have you seen your doctor about the problem?
It could be digestive, and in no way related to CPAP.
Horrible "gas"could be a sign of a gall bladder problem--or any one of several disorders.
Some could be scary bad if ignored.

Coffee is definitely a gerd trigger...it also produces gas. Should I assume that you are taking some acid reducer like Zantac or Prilosec?

Re: I haven't been here in awhile
When I lost weight on an LCHF diet, the FIRST place I seemed to lose it was my face, and it really messed with my mask fitting. Are you having more leaks that cause more pressure and more air swallowing?
I'm not a big believer in "lose the weight, lose the apnea" but maybe it's true in your case. Have you taken a good look at your data to see if maybe you have too much pressure now?
Whole 30 is a pretty clean diet--it's very much like an auto-immune elimination diet, except that eggs are permitted (eggs can often be a source of dietary intolerance). But have the symptoms been there all along since you started Whole 30 or are they related to some food re-introduction???
One other thought, if your diet is causing you to be in ketosis, that may be interfering with sleep. It makes me a little buzzy and I don't sleep as well.

Re: I haven't been here in awhile
I don't think its a gall bladder problem as it only happens when I use the cpap. I have told my pulminologist and his response was to put me on a stronger gas X and prilosec.chunkyfrog wrote:Have you seen your doctor about the problem?

I didn't start having heartburn until after I started the prilosec. The gas issue I have had since I started cpap. And I have tried everything to relieve it. About five months ago, I thought that I had it licked because I was only getting very mild gas and was sleeping through the night..
Now I'm back to the same old same old.

Prilosec. I never had heartburn in my life until I started taking it. well that's a bit of lie as when my first wife was pregnant, I had heartburn.

I broke the diet yesterday and ate terrible lol going to start back up again tomorrow, but I probably was in Ketosis because their were days when I might have eaten 10 carbs.
my face always stays fairly lean. I gain weight in my belly.
