Ok!! I wear a resmed Quattro Fx mask.
I have acid reflux...I have acid in my mask when I wake up!
I clean my mask and face every night before
I go to bed...
I have never felt better in my life...
Problem I have been having face breakouts where the mask sits...and pealing of skin on each side of nose. I breath thru my mouth...so have to have full mask!!! I have a deviated Septum.. But doctor said only wanted to fix it if it was emergency!!!
So anyone else deal with acid coming up at night? I don't eat for 5 hours before I sleep!
The breakouts and the acid problem is messing with me!
I know a new bed!!! But I'm broke and on disability!
I already prop on 4 pillows and sleep facedown...yes!! I have issues!!
But if I sleep face down acid don't get in lungs...tried to get doctor to fix The hiatial hernia!! But they won't.oh I have Arthritis all over a bad back!!!so can't sleep on back!
Plus just had a total knee replacement on right knee!!! Yes it's hampering my sleep also!
Mask making nose peal on each side...
Re: Mask making nose peal on each side...
Have a little protein (bits of chicken, tuna, p.butter, etc.) closer to bedtime... after 5 hrs anyone's stomach will look for something to process and finding nothing will produce acid. Not a great idea (to not eat at all). I also find that just half a small Tums before bed goes a long way to keeping things quiet til morning.
Get the head of your bed up on 5 inch blocks/bricks and it should help with reflux a lot.
Get Padacheek.com liners to go under mask and prevent breakouts.
And btw, bells 'peal', skin 'peels'.

A Bi Level machine helped to end a problem like you are describing for me, a lot. Before that I took Prilosec (and there are later drugs which some say are better.) Also Gaviscon can help a good bit. Have you tried Simethicone? Neither Prilosec or Gaviscon are really inexpensive.
The problem with going to a Bi Level machine is that insurance companies do not want to pay for a more expensive machine, if they can connive their way out of it. Medicare says they will not pay for a Bi Level machine if the purpose is comfort. That one must fail CPAP before getting a Bi Level machine. Excepting some diseases, like MD/MS, where a Bi machine is the lowest machine they approve.
To be clear, a Bi Level machine might solve all your issues with Acid Reflux, without anything else. I think it should be titrated in a sleep lab, which as we all know, is the one night one gets very little sleep.

Re: Mask making nose peal on each side...
Jan the breakouts may be caused by the acid in your mask, try and raise the head of your bed 5-6 inches. This is what I had to do to stop my re-flux, my Dr said that just propping up on pillows wont work. I have a heital hernia too and take generic meds for it going on 17 years. Raising the head of the bed has helped a bunch, but if you slide down to the foot of the bed it may be too high...lol.Jan63 wrote:Ok!! I wear a resmed Quattro Fx mask.

---Actually, the bipap will lower air pressure in the airway, (during exhale) helping prevent "splashes".
