newbie with results and question

Post by nursejane72 » Tue Sep 01, 2015 1:36 pm

I would like to post some numbers and ask opinions and need to know if this is the right place? Also I have a question about the oxygen level...my sat went to 80% give or take, is that something that nighttime oxygen would help? I am a 60 y.o. female and just got my results. I see my doc next week
Thanks !
Jane

Was the 80% with cpap therapy or without?
If without...have you had it checked with cpap therapy?

Mine went to 73% without cpap but with cpap it never really drops (checked at home with my own pulse ox and also with a DME loaner pulse ox). So it becomes nothing to worry about as long as I sleep with my machine in use. No need for added O2 because once the apnea events were under controlled it didn't drop anymore.

Now if the drop is happening even with cpap in use then more investigation needs to be done.

An awful lot, if not most of us had some degree of desaturation when tested, some lower than yours and for extended times, but that alone does not mean you need added 02. Once on Cpap, if you still show serious drops (below 88-90%) more than e.g. once or twice over days, then it could mean that either your pressure settings are inadequate (and can easily be raised), or that depending on other factors 02 could be tried, but the great majority of us are not on 02, and do very well on C (or A) pap alone.

I have been off my cpap for a while and just restarted it. Yes, stupid I know, be nice....the sleep study was totally without cpap...at the bottom of results it rec. a cpap titration with follow up sleep study. They gave me the non-dictated bare bones report: "Mod severe, AHI 19/hr..not worse when supine..AHI of 69.7 suggests overall AHI underestimates the severity...sleep architecture abnormal, very fragmented with reduced REM sleep."
33% Stage 2....56% Stage 3....only 31 total REM minutes
72 arousals in 314 minutes= 1 every 4 minutes
No snoring
02 sat down to 71%
77 desaturations
Obstructive apneas 27.......Mixed apneas.....4......Central apneas 13
Hypopneas 23
AH index 69.7
Max apnea 50 sec
Max hypopnea 59 sec

Anxious for ANY input (except telling me how stupid it is to not use your cpap.. I realize that now.. .) : )
Thanks everyone

Can you download SleepyHead software from here (1st 'Announcement' main pg) and let us see what a couple of nights look like so there's something current to go by? You can upload to Imgur.com, then post a link in this thread to the graphs, etc. there.

Your O2 levels were low because you stopped breathing so often. CPAP use should open your airway and reduce considerably the apneas that are occuring. For most people the O2 levels are in the normal range with regular CPAP use. I had the same concerns when I was first tested...as I remember, my O2 levels were in the low 80s. With CPAP my levels have been normal whenever I tested them.
Fixed pressure at 11

Imgur.com's a download site for screenshots of your graphs (no calendar - it takes up space needed for text results on left of graphs). There should be instructions on how to set up there, and then to leave the link to it in this thread. If not, someone else here more experienced with it will come along soon.

How to use imgur to host report images....be sure to read all 3 pages (follow the links)
https://sleep.tnet.com/reference/tips/imgur

SleepyHead instructions..again, follow the links
https://sleep.tnet.com/resources/sleepyhead

Which version did you get? The most recent doesn't actually "install" but instead you have to run it from an unzipped folder...and where they go depends on your OS but usually they go to the download folder.
