SLEEPYHEAD GRAPHS

Post by seajay » Mon Aug 31, 2015 12:27 pm

My pressure graph shows four different colors: green, red, pink and orange. How do you interpret this? The guide does show what the colors represent on a few of the graphs, but there is so much orange on my pressure that I thought I should increase the the low pressure above 4.0. I'm trying to learn. the gal at Alpha sleep wonders if I have the machine that covers the centrals. Is the bipap suppose to be set to auto on the respironics system one? Is the machine as good as a plain VPAP?

I assume your machine is either a model 950 or 960..if so then yes..this machine is the one used to treat centrals.
It's going to be a better choice to treat centrals than a plain VPAP from ResMed because the PR S1 machine can respond so much faster with high pressures needed to treat the centrals.
Trying to make any sense of the pressure graphs on the 950/960 machines is next to impossible because each line means something and there are so many somethings to show. Quite honestly I don't try.
Between the minimum and maximum EPAP and min and max PS and the wide range in IPAP min and max...you can't really see much at any detail unless you zoom way in.

Minimum EPAP is usually what is used to treat any obstructive apneas. If your OA count is relatively low then minimum EPAP is probably fine but it all depends on what the other settings are that the min EPAP is working with.

This may or may not help you understand what your machine does and what it is showing

EncoreGuide link this will show you examples of what Encore reports show and Sleepyhead and Encore look differently but the meaning of the data itself is the same no matter which software is used.

T can't find a number on the machine but the name is BiPap autoSV Advanced System one.

Pugsy, I got the Encore to print. The machine is a 960P

I was pretty sure you had the 960 because you mentioned 4 pressure graph lines. I think the 950 only has 3 but I could be wrong. The 960 has auto adjusting EPAP with a min and max EPAP range. I think the 950 only has min epap and no max epap.

I don't worry too much about the pressure lines themselves. I have a 960 and when I use it I just make a note of the events graph and the AHI and those events and as long as the AHI is acceptable then I just trust the machine to be doing its job and not worry about the pressures used to get the job done. It's not like I can do much about them anyway.
The only exception would be if my obstructive events were higher than I wanted or I saw a lot of FLs or snores..then I would increase EPAP a little. I had to do that when I got this 960...did a little self titration adjusting the EPAP minimum upwards til the obstructive stuff reduced to where I was okay with what I saw.
Interesting to note that I had to use more minimum EPAP with the 960 than I do with the ResMed S9 Adapt. Not a lot more but a little more. The Respironics algorithm isn't quite as aggressive as the ResMed response.
I do well with either but I have to use different settings.

Pugsy, Thank you so much for the information. I guess I should as you do and just let the machine do it's job. I was so alarmed about the amount of pressure I was feeling that I didn't think the machine was working right. After I took it off of 0.0, I feel better. When you think I started out 7 years ago with a bipap of 25/23 that blew a wind storm I am thankful for the ASV. You have been very helpful and thank you so much.
