Stamina

Just writing a follow-up post on stamina. When I first got the CPAP, I noticed some improvements when working out - I was able to do an hour-long karate class without needing to take a break because I was exhausted. And I was able to climb hills better and faster. But I have been lucky to have a really good way of measuring improved stamina: karate belt tests!

I did my blue belt test a few months before I started using the CPAP, and I was able to do each kata (exercise) once, along with the other required moves for my blue belt. 14 months later, I did my brown belt test. Then I was able to do all the previous belt katas, plus two new katas, TWICE, along with the other moves. So I effectively doubled my cardio fitness. And no, I didn't lose a lot of weight or start an extra running program in between karate classes. It must have been the CPAP. Amazing. The thing with this treatment is that the improvements often come on slowly, and because you are the one experiencing them, you are not able to measure them objectively.

If you need it, a CPAP really can improve your quality of life. I love it - especially since I started using nasal pillows.

So for all of you who might be feeling discouraged, don't give up.

Congratulations! Sounds like the therapy is working good for you and I am glad to hear that. Keep it up! What kind of nasal pillows are you using? In your information it has a nasal mask that is why I ask. I like to know what others use and really like. Cheers!

Do you ever have some doubt that being able to sleep and breathe would not yield improvements?

MarchWinds,

Thank you for sharing this testimonial about your improved health and stamina from the use of your CPAP!

It has been a little while longer for me since I started this this therapy, but the benefits in stamina and other areas of health is still evident. Just having a couple of nights with minimal PAP usage due to a bad head cold or a night of sleep without it from the electricity being down, reafirms to me how amazing this therapy can be when it works successfully.

I totally agree with this! I will sadly add that the damage done to our bodies from inconsistant use of XPAP or from the unfortunate denial of OSA/Sleep Apnea, which happens too frequently, come on slowly, almost immeasurably as well, until it cannot be ingnored any longer or health issues cause our bodies to just give up.

I use the AirFit P10 nasal pillows. The pillows are very comfortable - almost like there isn't anything there.
