Using AC Powered CPAP on Air Canada

Post by ziggygt » Fri Aug 28, 2015 10:11 am

On a recent Air Canada flight they told me I was not able to use my Transcend (very small) CPAP using the AC power. The power consumption is less than my laptop but they insisted that only battery power CPAPs could be used on any Canadian airline. The Transend is FAA certified for onboard use. I need this to get any sleep for my 12 hour flight so I did negotiate a one time use bsed on pilots OK. Took a lot of negotiating. Air Canada had the cheapest flights , but I will not be able to use them with this rule. Does anyone have experience getting an authorization or letter from CA.

Have you tried Westjet to see what they say?

Did you write to AC or just take the clerk/flight attn's word for things?

IATA's in Mtl, and I wonder if there'd be any point in approaching them at all...

The last two AC flights I was on did not have regular power at the seat. It was a USB port only.

The airline can make those decisions. You need to invest in a battery.

Did you actually look at the rules online prior to complaining?

I hate to say this, but within 30 seconds of Googling, there's a webpage that answers your questions:

http://www.aircanada.com/en/travelinfo/ ... _cpap.html

It clearly says that you require battery power and not electrical power from the seats.
