Newby here - First Oximeter Graphs - any comments?

Post by AMG » Thu Aug 27, 2015 10:43 am

Hi there I am new to all this. I have stopped breathing as I slept for years (my wife told me) however I have never done anything about it.

Ive had a few symptoms recently that may (or not) be attributed to sleep apnea so though Id get myself an oximeter.

So, two nights later here I am with my graphs

Id appreciate what anyone thinks? Night 1 Full is the whole night which had a few increases in heart rate with slight dips on O2 with one massive drop in O2 for around 30 mins or so. The Night 1 Detail pic shows this in more detail.

Same thing happened to me the next night , although at a different time of the night. I have attached Full Night 2 and Detailed Night 2 showing this.

I have an appointment with GP on Monday coming so hopefully she will send me for all night sleep test.

Id be interested any comments meantime though !

The image is too small to read the numbers. Are the O2 marks 5% increments?
When I did something similar years ago what interested the doctor was not the large dip but smaller more regular dips like you can sort of see on night 2 that indicate apnea. However I don't think yours drop below 90% so not that big a deal. It would be interesting to what she says about that large dip. Full recovery seems slow but 85% isn't real bad.

Thanks for that! Yes they are 5% increments so my big drops go below 70%, which I though was a little concerning?

I'll try to use bigger images next time.

Thanks for the feedback

Your data initially looks decent but then it appears that you are losing signal and then the O2 values drop. Once your signal is back it looks like your values are good.

I don't think you can read much into the data when the signal was questionable.

Your sudden drop looks to be caused by movement of the probe and cannot be deemed accurate. The O2 and pulse are not always effected in the same way as the receiving sensors although usually adjacent are not in an identical position. The probe needs to be better fixed to the chosen finger but not in a way that will cut off or restrict blood flow or induce pressure from the probe on your finger as this will also affect the results - not easy to achieve with 100% reliability. You should though be able to improve the reliability of your reading with more attention to the fixing of the meter.
