Sleep Study

Post by dkatcher » Thu Aug 27, 2015 1:23 pm

I have a septoplasty and turbinate reduction scheduled in two weeks. I have a sleep study scheduled before then. I mentioned this to doctor at the sleep clinic and said I should wait until after the septoplasty to get the sleep study done but I'm not sure about getting the surgery as it. What are your thoughts?

Hi dkatcher,

Why did you schedule the procedure?

As an FYI, most people do it because they have difficulty breathing through their nose and improving nasal potency enables pap therapy to work better. Unfortunately, having the procedure myself didn't achieve that goal but for most people, it does so your chances of success are great.

Regarding having a sleep study, my surgeon had said to wait a minimum of 12 weeks post operatively for the swelling to go down. Otherwise, inaccurate results will occur.

Have you had any sleep study previously by the way? Do you have a diagnosis of apnea?
