Stop, already! My shirt is wet with drooooool. love that asparagus!
---My severe myopia was not diagnosed or corrected until I was ten,
so my earliest recollections are of the miniature world underfoot.
So many plants have tiny flowers, perfect for fairyland fantasies.

Don't want to miss the beauty in everyday life. Thanks for the pictures. You got me thinking, maybe I can plant asparagus next year.

The bad thing it takes time for the crop to mature, 5 years for full crop.
A very tasty and healthy plant, good for kidneys, and many other things. My brother-in-law raises it for sale. I am supplied and the wife has gotten very good at fixing it, Butter salt added. Another bad thing as with all good food, the season is too short, we have to go back to canned store bought woody stems. Jim

I love asparagus but I have never been able to grow enough to harvest it. It takes a long time to get to the point where it can be harvested.

They look so much like pre historic plants from the time of the dinosaurs and earlier!

It's like mushrooms, I've never gotten enough, but I'm sure I've had all I needed at one time.

BIL, has a large area devoted to growing it in rows, very labor intensive, short harvest time, they sell by the lb at local farmers markets, about 6 weeks picking window, as the plants have to mature to make the next year's crop. (Can't kill the Cow, to get the Milk) Jim

....well, from my extensive 5mths of experience planting and watching
it grow.....I would say the success is in the bed prep.
I did the research and did the hard work. I think it is going to pay off.
No cutting this year. Maybe 3 cuttings next year. Maybe 3 weeks the 3rd year.

Indeed. I have never grown anything so fascinating.

So next time you take pictures put some little dinosaur toys amongst them, peaking out from behind a plant and see if anyone notices.

Shoots coming up from the ground like that always remind me of some alien monster from some old B movie.

Never "known" anyone who actually grows asparagus. Love these close-up pictures. Just sorry I waited until I was in my late fifties to learn to appreciate it. Don't know if this is embarrassing or just funny, but when I was introduced to asparagus no one told me about the after effect of stinky pee. I went to the doctor thinking I had a kidney problem.

That doesn't happen to all people, some bodies process it differently, it does seem to help the flow. So I say that is healthy...

We also grew onions, when I was young, about 120 years ago, I thought it was neat, how little ones grew out of the green stems, we also had peppermint growing at the back fence.

What I liked going to southern illinois on the farms seeing all the wild flowers, seems like most of them are gone. Better Living from Chemistry, thanks Monsanto! Jim

We have spearmint and horseradish below the bedroom window.
If the window is open, we can smell if something walks through the mint

As a boy in town, we had a big honeysuckle bush outside my bedroom window. We used a exhaust fan to cool the house, it pulled the smell into my room, good for sleeping. Would be nice going into my XPAP, back then I wasn't bothered by pollen, but when you went out the back door where the bush was bees would attact. Jim
