How can you tell if your machine is going on the blink

Post by Chelle25 » Tue Aug 25, 2015 1:04 am

Lately I have not been feeling very rested and am noticing that I'm waking up more often again during the night. It seems the air being pushed out of the machine does not feel as strong as it used to but it's reading that it is giving the same amount of air.

I'm trying to figure out if the machine might be going bad or something.

Anyone experience a cpap machine not working properly? What kind of things were happening?

That is a common feeling after being on the machine for some time it begins to feel like it is not much pressure ....
I had the same thing happen to me, I even made a manometer to test it with ... and the pressure was right on !

As far as not feeling rested : Get Sleepyhead software and take a look at what is happening.
If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

Get the Clinicians manual here : http://apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-press ... tup-manual

About two years ago I had a conversation on the phone with Accurate Biomed's previous CPAP service manager (sorry, forgot his name) and he told me that generally speaking CPAP machines don't tend to drift out of calibration - rather they totally fail all at once. IOW, they just stop blowing air and display a plethora of error codes on the LCD. I'm not an expert and don't know if that's true, however I'd like to hear about members experiences. Maybe I'll start a poll to see what the members of CPAPtalk have experienced in the past. Most DMEs and sleep doctors have manometers to measure air flow and that is a good starting point to determine if your therapy pressures are delivered in the correct manner. Maybe CPAPtalk member Ian of Accurate Biomed will drop by and give his opinion.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

You received many good replies. Another possibility is that your pressure needs to be increased, which was the problem in my case. Do you use Sleepyhead? If not, it would be a good idea and would answer many questions you may have. Discussing it with your doctor is another option.

Thanks for all the replies. Yes maybe I'm just so used to the pressure that it doesn't seem to be as strong.

I had sleepyhead on my old computer but it went and died on me so now I'm only dealing with my phone and an iPad. I guess I could take it into the docs office to have him check it out.

Your DME can check it is 5 minutes...you don't need your doctor.

I see you have an APAP listed in your profile. If you're using a range of pressures, it could be that the pressures aren't as high as they used to be or as high when you're noticing the differences.

But, I also agree with the suggestion to have it checked with a manometer for accuracy.
