Online Medicare DME

Post by ldj325 » Tue Aug 04, 2015 2:11 am

Does anyone know of a good online Medicare (with Blue Shield supplemental) approved DME? Or a good DME in Los Angles area? I have recently been approved for a new Aissense 10 Autoset for Her (even though I'm a Him). Alas I am in a dispute with my DME & want to dump them--surprise, surprise. I need someone soon. Does anyone have a good referral? Thanks to my diligence & CPAPTALK I'm pretty veteran & don't need physical support from a DME. Local would be fine, but everyone I've researched here has horrible reviews.

Thanks so much.

If you are in a capped bidding area your choices could be slim.
I started at the top of the list for Silicone Valley and continued on until I located a DME that guaranteed a new Airsense 10 Autoset.

I drive over 40 miles to reach my DME, not bad I guess compared to people in rural areas.
The good news is once I received my Airsense 10 Autoset, all ordering is by phone.
I have not heard of an online Medicare supplier for CPAP supplies. If you find one let me know.

Considering the savings in money and stress, a monthly road trip is perfectly reasonable.
I go 50 miles for service on my hearing aid.
I know of folks who go at least as far for chemo--and as often as needed.
Medical travel is a thing, now.

I have posted this before and will confirm we are still pleased.

I have read many people describe their unhappy experience with DMEs. I would like to describe my DME experience with which I have been very pleased.

My wife has had very good luck with VERUS HEALTHCARE LLC. They are part of the Competitive Bidding Program. They accept the Medicare-approved amount as payment in full for all claims for the category. They were on the Medicare list when I put in my zip code even though they are 700 miles away. They also handle our secondary insurance, Tricare for life.

Everything was done by phone or email and promptly and they followed up with the doctor. We sent them by email a copy of the sleep study, the doctor's office notes and the prescription. They handled everything else. There was one hold-up. They needed a signature on the prescription and not simply the words that it was "e-signed". They sent the doctor their form with the info for him to sign, he didn't want to sign their form, so he re-wrote the prescription, signed and faxed it back. Verus overnighted my wife's PRS1 560 and the tap-pap and heated humidifier and modem. They use recorded phone lines and have been very courteous and helpful.

I now get my supplies from them also. They have been very responsive. For us, it has been excellent service; however, you don't have someone come out to your house and "fit you" or explain the equipment. They do have respiratory therapists but neither of us have had a need to seek their advice - so I can't comment on that aspect of their support. However, based on their other dealings, I would expect it to be good.

There is one other thing that I have learned about Medicare funding requirements. For the DME to get paid by Medicare, the prescription must be written by an individual enrolled in the Provider Enrollment Chain and Ownership System (PECOS). In other words, if a physician does not have an approved enrollment record in PECOS, Medicare will not pay for home health services provided to that physician's patients.

Thank you for the information.
They are actually on my list---2,429.17 miles away.

Are you able to do all your orders online and skip phone calls?

I have not done business online. Verus calls me on a recorded line and asks what I would like to order and identifies what I am authorized. They call about two weeks ahead of my "authorized" supply date. They take the order over the phone, send a confirming email then send an email when they ship. In fact, my wife and I just got off the phone with them. Verus called last week while my wife was at the beach; I asked them to call back this week. They said sure and they did.
We are very pleased.
Remember they do not have physical presence anywhere near me but that has not been a problem for us. YMMV

I first tried our sponsor, CPAP.com but found out they do not take Medicare. Thanks to the person who PMed me, I contacted Verus earlier today--before reading all the posts here. Now I can add my voice to all the positive recommendations. I was truly impressed with their sense of caring and helpfulness. Alex Conner was my primary contact and he was great. The service was a world apart from what I've been experiencing in my calls to local DMEs. I was so impressed with Alex, that I volunteered to write to his bosses and tell them of his great service. And when I mentioned CPAPTALK, he affirmed that CPAP.com is a very good company as well with caring staff. All in all it was a very pleasant experience, one of the better customer support encounters in all fields--ever.

Thank you for everyone's input.
