Less sleepy after forgeting cpap

Post by Oldtrapper » Sun Aug 02, 2015 12:40 pm

I have been using a cpap for about 10 yrs. I had a high osa of 160 and presure is at 10.
Last week, while working out of town, I forgot my machine at home. I felt better then
I have in years. It was harder to fall asleep at night but I didn't have any daytime sleepyness.
On a normal day I nap on my lunch break and feel groggy but last week I was full of energy
And felt great. Dosnt seem right. Anyone else?

No, that doesn't make much sense. Have you ever taken a look at your data with sleepyhead to see if your therapy is working well?

And please fill out the equipment section of your profile - it gets tacked on at the end of all your posts.

Good that you are checking Sleepyhead. It could be that you don't need your pressure as high as you have it now. No way to know without data, however.

Maybe you were on an adrenalin high of sorts, working out of town. When I'm out of town, my body always seems on high alert and nothing feels normal.

No, it doesn't seem right.
Without knowing which machine you have, it's not clear whether you'd be able to use Sleepyhead software. If it's older than about 5 years (early - mid- 2010), it wouldn't be compatible with Sleepyhead. And, many machines given out by DMEs haven't been capable of collecting sleep data. So, without knowing which specific model you have, it's hard to say.

Also, it would help to know which mask you're using. If you've been using a nasal mask and losing your therapy air out your mouth, it would indicate that your therapy has been compromised or less than optimal.

Personally, after 10+ years of therapy, I can't even get to sleep without my machine and therapy air.
When someone claims that they HAVE slept without their machine, I get suspicious. And, I wonder how on earth a person using this therapy for that long COULD "forget" their machine.

I'm with you - sleep is just not possible without my machine as I was painfully reminded of during my January sleep lab test.

I interpreted his "forgetting" the machine as that he forgot to take it with him on his trip - not that he had it with him but forgot to use it. After so many years, one doesn't just forget to put on a mask! LOL

Note the OP is not a registered account do the possibility of a troll post is very high.

I over 9 years of CPAP, I simply don't sleep or even take naps without masking up.

Just back from a quick trip to San Diego, The number one item on that trip list was my machine, all the parts etc. No way am I going anywhere without it. Every move include a checklist to ensure nothing was left behind.

I would not ever leave home without my cpap.
NO WAY!
Sleeping without it feels so miserable, I would not, COULD not forget it.
I wonder if the OP's machine is old and not working right--or needs the pressure changed.

I;m still trying to figure out the 160. If that ahi, that means more than 2 apnea events per minutes at a minimum of 10 seconds each. We're talking not breathing 44% of the night, minimum. That is beyond severe and would probably have some bad desat numbers too. How can anybody with those numbers sleep well without a machine. Is an ahi of 160 even possible?

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

Seems to me you may need another sleep test. In the cpap-world, you never knee-jerk after one event. See what the doc says...

Seems to me we have another TROLL thread

even the name "Oldtrapper" .... OP has trapped another thread

And I am sure all the trouble makers will join in and continue this thread for the next month.
If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

Get the Clinicians manual here : http://apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-press ... tup-manual
