Time to get a new machine

Post by scott122262 » Sat Aug 01, 2015 7:53 am

Hello all,
My current machine is over 4-years old and I am looking at purchasing a new one very soon. The machine is the Respironics bipap autosv advanced, this has been a fantastic machine till it feel off the shelf yesterday and took out the screen however it still seems to work ok but to be safe I want to replace it. I did a search on CPAP.com and it came up with the following 6 machines. RESmart BPAP 25A, IntelliPAP AutoBiLevel, PR 60 Series BiPAP Auto, AirCurve 10 VAuto , S9 VPAP Auto BiLevel and S9 VPAP S Bilevel. I am some what confused, My prescription calls for "Bipap autosv advanced only" Are any of the ones listed comparable/better then my Respironics unit?

All the machines you listed are "plain" bilevel devices that won't/can't do what the ASV type of machines will do.

CPAP.com no longer carries your type of machine. No reason given. They never had the ResMed equivalent and the model 960 simply is no longer available.

You would need either the Respironics PR System One 60 Series BiPap AutoSV Advanced which is model 960
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/pr-60- ... anced.html
or the ResMed equivalent is the new AirCurve 10 ASV
http://www.resmed.com/us/en/consumer/pr ... 0-asv.html

Now in Resmed line there is the prior model the S9 Adapt model 36037 or the even slightly more older 36007.
The newest models have auto adjusting EPAP (with min and max EPAP settings) where your machine probably just had minimum EPAP.

You might check out secondwindcpap.com if you are going to private purchase a new machine. They are still showing ASV models...some gently used and some new open box special zero hour machines. Just be sure to know the model numbers because their model name wording isn't necessarily technically correct.

If you are on ASV because of central apneas then the "plain" bilevel machines can't respond quickly enough and you must use the ASV type.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "took out the screen" but it sounds like your machine is fully functional so I wouldn't be in a hurry to replace an expensive machine like that when it's still working. Is the display physically cracked or broken or just not displaying? You can use sleepyhead and your sdcard to monitor your therapy, right?

Displays can be repaired or replaced. We have at least one poster here who provides authorized repair service - you ship them the machine and they repair it and ship it back. Mechanically, it's an easy fix once you have the replacement part - 5 minutes of soldering. Do you have a backup machine?

If you just want a new machine and can afford it and/or have insurance coverage then that's fine too. But understand that repairing a broken display is not a big deal and won't affect the operation of your machine.

I try to route my hose or attach the hose to something with a velcro strap in such a way that the cpap machine can not be pulled off the shelf by the hose.

The current Resmed machine for your needs is the Aircurve 10 ASV. The Philips Respironics 60 serise (model 96) Auto SV Advanced is the most current in that line. I would limit my choices of new machine to those. You probably know they are quite expensive without insurance participation.

A 4 yr old machine is probably the tank Legacy series which uses the smart card technology unless he happened to get an early model 950 which uses the SD card.
If it is the smart card machine SleepyHead will of course not work but Encore with the DT3500 card reader would still be available.
While the 50 series models have been out for some time now Respironics was slow to move to the 50 series ASV machine so I am not sure it was available 4 years ago.

The display is no longer working. I never even thought about getting it repaired however I do not have a backup. What I need to do is get a new unit and have my current one repaired and use it for a backup. If someone could please point me in the right direction on getting it repaired I would greatly appreciate it. As for affording a new one, my insurance has a 3500.00 deductible so my purchase will be out of pocket. Thanks Pugsy for recommending Secondwind, their pricing looks very reasonable.

If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!
