Washing the hose is a preference thing. Some people wash it regularly, perhaps weekly. Others never wash it. The only thing flowing through it filtered air with a little bit of moisture in it. When I first started, I washed my once a week as instructed by my DME. After reading many threads about washing the hose, I have stopped washing it. The only time I wash mine is after I have a bronchitis attack, which happens about once a year.

When I did, it did no harm--wnen I did not, it made no noticeable difference.
If you hang it to dry, avoid the bathroom--e-coli floating about.

Hose has no mucus, which takes care of inhaled microbes in a person.
Length of exposure is proportionate to deposit of foreign material.
Never bring the hose into the bathroom-- unless you have one with no toilet.
Better to never wash the hose than to wash or dry it there.

Yes. Water won't hurt it.
