The Vortex of Enchantment

Post by carbonman » Wed Jul 01, 2015 7:32 am

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again
and expecting different results.

--Albert Einstein

The more things change the more they stay the same.

The steps required for an internet forum to change a light bulb.

1 to change the light bulb and write about it...

14 to say that they also changed a light bulb one day and to evoke the various manners...

7 to warn of dangers inherent to changing a light bulb...

27 to indicate the spelling mistakes in messages concerning the change of an electric light bulb...

53 to abuse the correcters of spelling mistakes..
1 to correct those who abuse the correcters of spelling mistakes...

12 to discuss whether it is necessary to say ' electric light bulb ' or 'lamp'.

2 professionals of the industry to say that the correct term is 'incadescent light bulb'...

15 know-it-all who pretend to have been in the industry and who will advise that to say ' electric light bulb ' is perfectly correct...

109 to indicate that this forum does not concern electric light bulbs and to ask people to discuss that on the "electric light bulbs " forum...

111 to defend the subject since everybody uses electric light bulbs thus the aforementioned subject has its place here...
306 to discuss the best technique to change a light bulb, where to buy the best electric light bulbs, which brand is the best adapted to this technique and which to avoid...

27 to post urls where we can discover the various electric light bulbs...

40 to say that they do not trust in an electric light bulb and to give links to pseudo-scientific web sites which claim to know healthier, less enviromentally damagging alternative solutions to produce some light...

6 to indicate that the right to light is not in the constitution..

6 to paste passages from the constitution and to interpret them for us so that we can all understand that there is in fact such a thing as "the right to light"...

1 army retiree who used to be in a special elite group changing light bulbs very efficiently..

12 more to agree that they don't make lght bulbs as they used to be..

1 to post a photo of an electric light bulb and one of a something which only looks like an electric light bulb but which is in fact not one...

14 to indicate that the posted urls contains errors and to post the correct ones...

1 to say that he replaced his light bulbs with fluorescent lamps and that, he rarely has to change them...

12 to say that they are endinig their membership to the forum because they understand nothing in the debate concerning the electric light bulbs and that they have better things to do with their lives...

4 to say that a FAQ section concerning the electric light bulbs is needed...

44 to ask WTF(scientist term) is a "FAQ"?...

13 to say that in any normal house, there should be candles somewhere, in case the light bulbs konk out...

5 to say that they do not use electric light bulbs, only candles...

4 to ask " didn't we cover light bulbs last month?"...

143 to ask people to do a search about the electric light bulbs with Google before launching a discussion concerning the electric light bulbs..

1 jackass to reply to the first message 6 months later and relaunch the whole freakin' ordeal!

Like a moth to the flame.......

As hard as I try to put this in the realm of reality,
as hard as I try to believe that in the deep silence of the night,
there is not an enchanting laughter.............
wafting into the abyss......

..........I can not look away.

Incomplete, you left out POLL's! Surveys, on what people think about something that they don't know about, but want to share their uninformed opinion about with masses. Stroking new users into thinking they are a valid part of the forum, without using any effort to learn anything. Jim

Especially effective on Forums that have no comtrols, by reintroducing the Poll to the top of the page, everytime a newbe needs a stroke, along with talked out posts that are outdated, even if they have 2,000 views and 35 posts, adding one more misguided opinion to the pile.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

"There's a sucker born every minute" is a phrase most likely spoken by David Hannum,
in criticism of both P. T. Barnum, an American showman of the mid 19th century, and his customers.
The phrase is often credited to Barnum himself.
It means "Many people are gullible, and we can expect this to continue."

Why is it you can't accept that the poster in question has serious personal problems that are not put out here to annoy you, but ask for help? The problems may keep him from using the help that's offered, but it doesn't mean he's deliberately doing something to sucker you (or anyone else). I used to think you had a good take on humanity, the earth, etc. etc. but you're showing yourself to have no understanding or compassion for someone who for whatever reasons can't help himself. If others choose to continue trying to help anyway, even in the face of probable failure, what do you care? Just stay out of it.

In the spirit of the original post.......... "incandescent" is misspelled ! ("2 professionals of the industry to say that the correct term is 'incadescent light bulb'...")

But what if the problem is a severe addiction to attention?
There may be a mental disorder present, but its manifestation eventually isolates and aggravates to extremes.
Why was the problem NOT covered offline, away from those of us who are unqualified to help,
much less unable to even tolerate the shenanigans observed?
This is an ADVICE forum! We cannot use advice to solve a problem that requires a butterfly net.

Kaiasgram's opinion is well stated and something to think about:

""In fact I'm convinced that people's staying engaged with him on this forum -- no matter how well intended -- is keeping him distracted and disinclined to seek the help he really needs and which no one here is in a position to provide. I have compassion for his suffering and I feel strongly that the most helpful thing all of us can do at this point is to draw the line, stop responding to all his posts, put an end to these dysfunctional circular dialogues, and hope that he will then turn his attention to getting the appropriate professional (medical and mental health) care."
